Cooper vs. Goodyear Tires

Hey all, long time no post. I had a set of Goodyear Fortera tires, top of the line and not cheap and they rode really nice especially compared to the OE Bridgestone Duelers. I was on my 2nd set of them and got a flat and went to get the tire patched and they said there wasn't enough of the tire left to patch and that i was going to need new tires very soon. I bought these 3 years ago and got 41,000+ miles out of them. The manager at Goodyear said the company was aware that the Fortera tires had an "issue" with treadlife (gee i wasn't aware) and that they would give me a "good deal" on a new set because the tires were warranted to 60K so i would get a pro-rated discount. I decided that i did not want to buy Goodyear tires ever again and so after shopping around for specials i wound up buying a set of Cooper Discovery tires for $580 total. I wasn't shopping for any particular brand of tires. The store offered Michelen (most expensive but super nice tires), Cooper, Nitto, Sumintomo, Goodyear, and Pirelli. I took a picture just now in the rain and although it's not a great picture because some water got on my camera lens, i figured i'd better post the obligatory picture before i got hit with a this thread is useless without a picture posting!

Do you like them?

I personally wouldn't think they would compare to the Fortera's or Michelin's.

i like them so far but i only drove about 50 miles on them since they put them on this morning. the T4R is driving much much nicer than the old tires. I guess i will have to update after a few hundred miles on them. They seem to have good grip and a smooth quiet ride. Normally they were 157 each but they had buy 3 get 1 on this tire set as a special. It's actually a bit more expensive than the Nitto's and Sumitomo's which are 142 each and didn't have any specials going on. No way are they as nice as the Michelins which were about $800 for the set. If i had the $'s for sure i would have gone for the Michelins. I hope i haven't made a mistake buying Cooper Tires. The Sigma Stampede which is made by Cooper and not as nice a tire as the Discoverer would have actually cost me more because of the sale. The tires have a nice profile and tread pattern, for my use which is almost all highway. These tires would not be appropriate if you do off-roading.

I have a 3G with 235K miles, most on Cooper Discoverer ATR (pretty sure they are ATR). About $700 or so a set. I have gone through about 3 sets, about 65K miles or so per set. They are a little on the loud side but awesome in the snow. I also own a 4G, just bought it with Michelin tires (used, about 32k on the tires). I was concerned in January when I bought it, the tires are original and somewhat worn. I live in a hilly area and we had a major snow storm, but they did fine. However I will replace them with Cooper soon, not sure which model, I might go for a quieter ride, they have a nice selection.

I also have Cooper Discoverer ATR on my 4Runner. They are excellent tires in snow. Probably one of the best non-snow tires I've ever experienced. And unlike the poster above me, I don't find them noisy at all. I didn't notice any difference in noise when I switched from the original Dunlops to the Discoverers.
