Question Noob with a couple of 2008 JBL with nav questions.

Hello,

I'm about to purchase a 2008 Limited with the JBL Nav head unit.

A number of questions come to mind.

What is the most current navigation DVD? How do Identify it? I want to make sure I get the current DVD when I pick the vehicle up next week.

I'm also interested in adding Sirius satellite radio, but the dealer wants $695.

Is it possible to buy the Sirius unit in the aftermarket? How difficult is it to install?

It's also my understanding that you can add Sirius or an IPOD controller, not both at the same time. True?

I can't answer your first question but your second one should be fairly easy. There's a ton of threads on here covering the subject. I did my own install with Sirius and a Pioneer unit. If they are similar then you'd need the Sirius receiver then the unit that would be specific to your h/u. Should run you well under $200 for both. Installing it is not that hard. I've done it and run the antennae much cleaner than I bet the dealer would. I think optimal position would be just forward of the spoiler on the roof. Again, lots of threads detailing how that is done.

I think the dealer cost is so high because of labor. Getting the h/u out and running the antennae is a fairly simple job but will take some time.

Let me know if you have a hard time finding the threads.

I believe the current nav disc is version 9.1. Good luck getting that from a used dealer. They typically charge hundreds for nav updates.

You can install both a sirius radio and iPod adapter to the JBL sat/nav unit. I just did it this weekend and it works quite well. You will need:

Sirius radio: Sirius SC-S1

Adapter for the Sirius radio: Sirius Toy-SC1

iPod Adapter: USA Spec iPod Adapter

If you have any experience with car audio you should find the install process very easy. You basically just plug everything in. The hardest part is placing and running the wire for the antenna. The only issue I had was that the sirius radio had a much lower volume level then any other input. That can be fixed by selecting the sat radio on the head unit and rapidly selecting presets 1, 6, 2, 5, 3, & 4.
