Does your truck have the speakers in the upper front doors/center dash? My understanding is that 4Runners that don't have the JBL synthesis do NOT have those speakers and therefore do not have the openings necessary to accommodate the speakers. The two interior mirrors that are mounted toward the tailgate will have to come out as well. I honestly don't think your truck is pre-wired. Anyone please chime in if I'm wrong. I have a friend with a SR5 and he doesn't have the aforementioned speakers.

I pulled out the mirrors and found plug ins behind each one, thats why i thought maybe it was pre wired.I know there isn't a speaker in the dash, but the rest of the speakers are there.

You will need the JBL amp as well. Unless I'm mistaken, the JBL Synthesis HU passes a digital output/signal that needs to be processed by the JBL amp before reaching the speakers.

why bother with something like JBL Synthesis. There is nothing spectacular about this 10 speaker stereo. In fact I want to rip it out and instal JVC 7" deck, 2 way front/rear, two amps and a 12" subwoofer. Easier to install new components and sound quality will be a lot better
