Steering wheel controls with aftermarket HU

Does anybody know if there are any aftermarket HUs that support the steering wheel controls?

I don't think that there are any, you will just have to pick up the adapter that allows you to use the controls.

That is the one that I saw in Crutchfield but I am certain that there are others. I think someone was using another kind somewhere in one of the threads in this forum. I see if I can find out which one.

The Alpine CDA-9851 (sold on Crutchfield) is the only deck right now that actually has OEM Steering Controls integrated into the stereo.

This is true integration, not the cruddy PAC-SIWX (or whatver it's called) that uses infrared.

The Toyota to Alpine steering control box should be available through PAC in about 10-14 days.

You can also go to www.alpine-usa.com to view the specs on this unit. Crutchfield doesn't mention the OEM controls on their site, but it does on Alpine's site. I have verified by talking to Alpine's technical support.

Alpine CDA-9851

I forgot to mention that not only will the Alpine CDA-9851 work with your OEM steering controls, it will also run Sirius or XM.

I almost installed it but did not for a few reasons:

1) The unit only takes up 1 din (I prefer the factory look)
2) The unit is silver, not black
3) The OEM control box is not quite ready, but will be in about 2 weeks according to Alpine and PAC

OK, stupid question but how to you get the thinner Alpine HU to look right in the big gaping hole left by the stock HU? What do you fill the rest of the hole with? Also, do you use the stock HU's mounting harnass?

you can use a dash kit that centers the head unit in the stock opening...or (being a toyota) you can mount the aftermarket hu to the stock brackets (much more secure) and put a blank plate or a pocket under the radio....

My brother had a Kenwood Excellon head unit in his Mercury Grand Marquis and he had it using the factory steering wheel controls.
