Factory to Factory stereo upgrade help (JBL Owners)

I have an 05 Limited with the 6-Disc JBL HU.

I want MP3 capabilities and NO tape deck Which JBL HUs from the 06-up will meet my criteria, fit with zero modifications to the bezel/dash and be plug and play?

It does not have to be 6-Disc, but it would be nice.

Model numbers would help a lot so I can hunt on eBay, etc.

What's a CD? Hard drive, USB drive or SD card reader is the future, my friend. I've Pioneer unit with thousands of songs on USB drive. Id get this unit for JBL optioned runner:

Right, already went down the road of aftermarket or factory. Not looking to dump $400+ into an HU upgrade, plus I like the look & fit of a factory HU.

Joe -

A very popular mod here is getting the Scion/Pioneer HU . I was looking to do the same thing with an aftermarket HU and found an HU that only has an iPhone connector. But, I can't find it anymore and it was most than I was looking to spend.

I acquired a T1809 (look around - you can get these for a avg of $125) in mint condition. I installed it last night (great instructions here) in about an hour. I had pre-ordered an iphone cable from eBay. It's "plug & play" - just unplug existing stock radio and plug this unit right in - no cutting or anything. All your steering wheel controls work too!

You may want to upgrade speakers and amp later....It's not JBL, but it will get you your mp3 less than $150.

Thanks for the info, but from my understanding, the Scion units will not work with the JBL equipped runners.

I have one and the sound quality is ok, I want to get rid of my tape deck with this upgrade as well, not worried about using my iPod in my runner.

MoJoe I am in the same boat. JBL in a limited 04 runner. want to swap to have IPOD control, would rather not spend big dollars. cant seem to find a clear answer as to what works or does not with a JBL type stock system. would like to toss in a 1809 and be done with it. but dont want to buy one and find out it does not work with the JBL stuff. anyone out there?

The Scion units and standard units will not work with our JBL equipped system. USA Spec and a few others make adapters that use your factory stereo to digitally attach your iPod. They run about $100-$150.

Since I want to replace my unit with an unit that can read MP3 written CDs, my factory unit has to go. Just not willing to invest more than $100 or so.

I just purchased this model HU off the forum here so I'll post how it works. Thanks.

Got the stereo in today, it is a direct replacement for my older JBL unit both in fit/style and plug-n-play install. Waiting on my USA Spec iPod adapter (broke down and bought one since I was ripping the dash aprart) then I will post pics and opinions.

Dice Mediabridge or Silverline DUO will also work.

I finished all the install today using the USA Spec PA20-TOY interface. It has CD sound quality and both the HU and interface were a snap to install.

Pics to follow soon. I am including a pic of the HU I bought from a member here.
