IPod/IPhone Cable Routing
Just installed an AVIC-Z130BT and purchased the ipod/iphone integration cable. Right now I have the entire length of the cable stuffed in the glove box, but was wondering if anyone else had come up with any good ideas of where to route this cable where it was not in the way but still accessible. Don't want to reinvent the wheel if someone has already done it.
I would like to get a male to female plug mount for both the USB and mini-jack cables that are panel mountable. If I can find them, I could cut a small hole in the center console box and connect the ipod/iphone cable there. When I'm not using it, or if I wanted to hook up a thumbdrive or something I could easily remove the pigtail for the Iphone. I have also thought about using one of the blank switches on the center console and doing the same thing there, but there is no way to hide the cable that way, and I don't necessarily want that out all the time.
Love to hear any ideas that you may have come up with.

I have a z120bt and I ran my cable through my center console tray. I just used some parts in my garage to try and "clean-up" the look. I keep my iphone cable plugged in. If I ever needed the USB for something else I figured I'd just use the SD card.
Either way, I like it in my center console tray because I can drop my phone in there, but it's still very handy if I need to check something. Also, it's setup to allow the cord to slide out of the hole at least 4 feet if I want to use the phone while it's plugged up. When not in use I just slide the length of the cord back in the hole.

yeah, stuff the wires below the center console, do what revo runner did and drill a hole and pull it up there, or drill a hole in the glove box...that's what I would do, that way if you leave your ipod plugged in and leave your car, no one can see it and won't be tempted to steal it.

Right now I have the ~8ft of cable hanging out in the glove box. Only problem with that is there is too much cable loose in the glove box to reach over to the drivers seat, and it's too inconvienent to reach over to the glove box to get your phone while you're driving. I'm still leaning to trying to figure something out using the center console. Thanks for the ideas though.

I just cut a little notch in one of the blanks next to the DAC switch so the cord slides in and out.

Center Console
I stuffed all the wires beneath the center console, drilled a hole just below the AUX input and AC plug and ran the connector through it. It's hidden, but easily accessible at the same time.

Could either of you post pics of this? I think this is along the lines of what I originally wanted to do.

I'll put some up as soon as I get the truck back together. I'm in the process of upgrading the stereo system.

I also did the same. Drilled a hole in the corner below the AC outlet and it will slide in and out as far as I need it. Super easy

Krazy, your clean "hole" job is impressive! (that sounded pretty awkwardly dirty when i read it aloud...sorry )
Can you give me details as to how you did it?

I installed the 2010 OEM Toyota USB / AUX port in the same spot as my 08 AUX port (inside the center console). The new port replaced the older 3.5mm port with both a 3.5mm and a USB. The reason I went this way is it simply snaps right into the same spot as the old port for the complete OEM look and function.
I'm not using the 3.5 mm its easy to wire up using an extension just like the USB. This would provide both connections you need. This way your not hacking up any cables from the HU or the vehicle.
Here is my thread for details.

ThreeFive0,
That is awesome, and just what I was looking for. I actually am out of town and have a KIA rental car that has a panel with a 3.5mm jack and a USB port (it also has a pretty descent bluetooth setup - can you believe that, in a KIA??). I was looking for something like this in the beginning, and because my bluetooth adapter requires both plugs (USB and 3.5mm) that option is perfect. Does that plug just require a square/rectangular hole to snap into? What type of connections are on each side of the plug?
This is definitely what I was looking for - I appreciate you dropping by with this info!
Travis
P.S. Love to see some finished pics...
