Question Question for grey cladding guys.....

Has anybody priced having the grey cladding replaced with painted panels. I have seen a couple of people that had the cladding painted, but I am not sure how good of an idea that would be. I like my cladding, but was just curious if anybody had priced it or even done it.

Most of the cladding parts come prepainted when they're ordered. Anyway, here are the prices from partznet:

Front fender painted cladding: $236.07 for each side
Front door painted cladding: $278.16 for each side
Rear door painted cladding: $262.87 for each side
Rear quarter painted cladding: $107.18 for each side
Front unpainted bumper: $157.18
Rear unpainted bumper extension: $124.39 for each side
Rear center bumper (not sure if it's painte silver or not: $59.58.

It'll be a whole lot cheaper to just have the exisitng cladding painted since you'll have to have the front and rear bumpers painted anyway.

I really like how your black SE looks with the cladding and I wouldn't change a thing, you have a very rare 4R.

I appreciate it. I was just curious about it. I do like the fact that there aren't too many grey clads out there. I have only seen one other black around town, but it is stripped down SR5 model. If i was evey in an accident, knock on wood, I would probably go ahead and switch it over to body color cladding. It would be silly to pay for it now when mine is in good shape.

There is a pic of a runner with the cladding painted to match and I like it a lot. The grey cladding is a lot more "masculine" looking as it has the kewl looking knotches cut into it.

I've seen just one or two silver with cladding around here, too. Figure that it's rare enough that if someone steals it, then it will be easy to spot.

If I didn't have the cladding, then I would have bought another color. I think black, the dark gray, and silver look good with the cladding, though.

haha, my neighbor had friends over yesterday for the UNC-Duke game. I was outside washing mine and another black/grey cladded Sport parked in front of the neighbors house. They had turned their tires to black sidewall out, I like the white letters out.

It was cool to see another rig like mine. I see silver so often I started to wonder if they started selling them in silver only?

I have the cladding and have found it to be a blessing in disguise! At first, lost of people were criticizing the cladding on the 4th gen's but I've had mine for two years now and not only does the cladding mask most scratches (from off-roading or whatever else), but it also is great if you ever decide to be stupid like me and run big enough tires that you have no choice but to chop some of the cladding off with a dremel and/or grinder! ;) Can't even tell that anything was done to it, and I am certain that if they had been the painted panels, it would do a much worse job at camoflauging my work.

Funny that Toyota does not even offer it as an option anymore.....A friend of mine just bought an Avalanche and the cladding (they call it the body armor package) is an additional cost; I think he said $800.

I love my cladding...makes the truck look mean. I actually bought the white 4Runner over the silver b/c it had the cladding. I saw my baby shiny white paint and gray cladding along with the sport trim and original V6....I fell in love.

Yep, you deffinately need it. i have seen your truck in some pretty rough off road shots. Plus it adds to the military look....

I love the grey cladding on my 4runner. I used to be one of those guys that would park way the hell away from everyone else to avoid the door dings etcn. Now I can park anywhere I want, no fear of door dings, sratches etc.

Plus I think it looks cool with the green painted panels.

I would go so far as to say that the lack of grey cladding would deter me from buying a new one. That, plus the lack of a green color choice.

I'd love to see the sales numbers, broken down by color.

I'd bet that there are far more silver 4Runners out there than any other color. I see them all the time also....

Silver is a popular color on any vehicle though...

Well, the painted cladding isn't susceptible to door dings either... that's one thing that I love about the 4th generation 4Runner-- it's pretty much anti-ding in parking lots. There just isn't much surface area to get a ding--just the middle and upper portions of the doors. The rest is covered in plastic.

Good point, I guess I was going more toward the scratch thing, where people scrape shopping carts against it and stuff. At least if you scratch the grey, there is grey underneath.
