User jmasse - Possible scammer? Bad business? You tell me.
Jmasse posted an ad for a set of carpeted floor mats to which I responded to and paid for very quickly via Paypal gift On May 1st. I've seen the warning about not doing that but figured hey, it's just $50, whatever. I've never been taken advantage of via forum sales before.
A little while after that, he texted asking for more money for shipping, to which I agreed. It was still a good deal for the mats I thought.
After I had to text him for a status update, 10 days later I might add, he texted me a link to a pre-shipment listing for USPS. As of now the item is still listed as in pre-shipment with no updates. I've told him several times I'd just like my money back since there's no indication the mats were ever sent.
He gave me the story that sometimes items don't get scanned correctly and they get delayed...but for a month? Whatever. If it's true or not, I don't care. I told him I just wanted my money back.
He also mentioned in a later text that things might be delayed because of logistical problems because of COVID-19. For the record, I've received items from Malaysia in 3 weeks after this pandemic business got going.
But he said no, because there's no way of knowing where the item is. ???WTF??? Dude...he acts like I'm trying to scam him, after paying with Paypal gift on top of that.
I've tried calling and he won't answer my calls now. Just word to the wise, as others have said: DON'T pay for items with Paypal gift!

for what its worth, ive had bad luck with USPS. had a diff drop get lost in lala land for 3 weeks with no update, mind you i could have driven up there to pick it up since it was only 1.5 hours away. I reached out to the seller and he sendt me the receipt with tracking info, but again it was somewhere in the shipping process. It just arrived one day out of the blue. Same for two other packages which took one month from Tennessee to California. If I had a choice I would only ship with UPS. USPS can be pretty bad. just my two cent. I hope you do get your mats.

Thanks for your input Iceman. I did consider that it does happen sure. But jmasse didn't seem very willing to give me a refund given the problems. That's a red flag to me. That and him insisting on using Paypal gift have me worried about it and motivated me to make this post. I know I've posted things for sale before on other forums and when there's a problem on my end, I feel it's up to me to make it right, even if it's not my fault. Plus, it's not even a crazy amount of money. So why the pushback? I dunno.

Regarding Paypal, don’t ever send a gift, unless it is a legit gift.
If you need to send $50, for example, just send $52 to cover Paypal’s fees to the recipient.
I would be very suspicious of a seller who demanded a gift. (I have no idea if your seller is legit or a scammer.)

I should clarify and say that he didn't insist on using gift, rather he suggested it first rather than adding any particular % and then using normal payment for goods and services. I'm not sure why I didn't honestly, I've done it before.

Sending via "gift" or "friends" is also a way for people to avoid having to pay taxes. It doesn't always mean that the people asking for payment that way are going to advantage of you. Paypal doesn't track any transactions that aren't "goods or service".

I just wanted to pop in here and let you all know I finally received my mats June the 4th. They were brand new in the packaging as advertised, but here's my takeaways:
1. Item was put in a box twice as big as it needed to be = extra shipping cost.
2. There was not enough packing in the box to keep the item from moving around. Not a big deal considering the likelihood of having rubber mats damaged is low, but since the box was essentially half empty it makes the box weaker than it would've been had it been packed. So when I got it, the flaps were half torn open.
I'm glad I got my item, but I wouldn't buy anything else from him if that's the level of consideration he gives to items he's selling.

There are a lot of delays in shipping now. Jmasse is correct. Sometimes, especially now, all of the packages don't get scanned at the origin.
USPS and UPS use dimensional weight for cost. USPS uses it for every location starting last year. If you are not familiar with that you will find out that a lightweight big box can be expensive to ship.
My mats from Husky came in a large box where they moved around and there was no packing.
