It is the new offroad toyota rig. It is a re-make of an older model that was in production until (i think) the late 70's. It is supposed to be a real offroading equiped vehicle.
If you go to toyota website under the title concept/future vehicles, you'll see it

No. The fj is for off-roading and XREAS is for on-road.
Wouldn't make sense to put it on the fj.

I *think* they had 32" tires on the ones seen in pictures but I don't think they are standard or an option. Something you would have to do after you bought.
I am considering one but I am at least going to wait to see if a convertable version comes out.
I want one really bad but I can't get past the hit I would take on the 4Runner and really the 4Runner offers A LOT more.
V8
4 doors
fold flat seats in rear
more room in cargo area
XREAS
AT with full-time 4WD and center locker
nicer interior
telescoping wheel
extendable visors with lighted mirror
Higher towing capacity with hitch standard
Available sunroof (which I have)
Rear tailgate better design with roll-down window
FJ
better approach and departure angles
rear locker
more room for bigger tires in the wheel wells
While the fj is priced well I only paid $29,400 for my 4Runner.
If they make a convertable I can overlook a lot of the 4Runners plusses and I would break-down and get one.

I didn't even think about that thing in a drop top. You def brought up very good pros/cons.
If it had a drop top, there wouldn't even be a discussion, it would be in my driveway.
Lucky for me mine is leased, so who knows what i will do when the lease is up. EIther a new 4runna or one of these

FJ is gonna be a nice rig for on-road and moderate off-road. I just don't see it competing with the new '07 Jeep Rubicon in off-roading. Toyota went the safe route and made the FJ full of compromises (for on-road performance) instead of a true hardcore off-road vehicle.
To be honest, unless you like something unique, i would go for the 4runner over FJ anyday. If you want something for off-roading mostly, then i would go for the new Rubicon 6-speed manual (73:1 crawl ratio and full lockers).
