Edmunds: FJ Cruiser vs. Xterra

Link:

2007 Toyota FJC vs. 2006 Nissan Xterra Off-Road

Hint:

FJ Cruiser

What Works:
Retro styling, modern functionality, class-leading off-road performance, better mileage than the competition.

What Needs Work:
Sherman-tank visibility, dump-truck steering, Mazda RX-8 rear doors.

Bottom Line:
Potent off-roader with enough style, utility and performance to win our hearts

What really stands out in this comparison is the engine performance of the FJ. I've come to the conclusion that the factory hp rating does not accurately reflect real world performance. There is no way these numbers add up. The FJ is heavier with much less hp and the vehicles perform almost identical. Toyota engines perform like they have approx 11% more power then the OEM rating. This would put the V8 4Runner at approx 289 hp compared to its competitors. That would explain why it does so well against vehicles with more hp.
