Brand new FJ Cruiser!!
What if I told you there's a place on earth where you can buy a brand new FJ Cruiser even today (2017)?
Here in Costa Rica you can still buy a new one from the Toyota seller as brand new.
Cool huh? Now check the price: USD 58K!!!
Here's the link if you don't believe me: http://www.toyotacr.com/autos/fjcruiser
Sorry, but it's only in Spanish.
breaking news!
A friend told me in Philippines you can also buy a new one, but unfortunately can't check prices.
Toyota FJ Cruiser | Toyota Motor Philippines - No. 1 Car Brand
But used ones from 2014-2015 are priced at no more than USD 18k.

I went to 3 dealerships when I looked for my T4R. Each one wanted me to trade my old FJ in...

I'll never sell my FJ, and not because of the value, but because of the vehicle itself. It's that amazing...

I bought an FJ in 06 when they first came out. It was totaled two years later when a texting driver rear ended it. It had a high cool factor but visibility was horrible. Huge blind spots and short windows. Never did have a chance to get it off road...
I will say that it felt incredibly safe and solid, like driving a sumo wrestler.

How did insurance do on compensation considering the current market? My friend had his 4 runner totaled, not his fault, he lost big time when the check came. The kicker was that it had over 200k miles and insurance companies greatly discount with those miles. Never consider it is a 4 runner and good for many more years.
What you are going to find is that the 4 runner will be highly desired in the coming years. The same thing with the jeeps. The drive train was changed in 2007 to accommodate regulations. The pre 2007 values are sky high on the wrangler. A similar required change is on the horizon with the 4 runner.
The big difference in the 4runner and FJ, is that there are tons more 4 runners out there compared to the FJ.
The FJ is an awesome vehicle with abilities that cannot be matched. Just not my cup of tea. IMO not practical in my universe. I had a jeep wrangler, lifted and looked really cool, just grew old over time and moved on.

Thread is a little old, but was not sure where to put my post.
Short version is: 2011 FJ with 45k miles and 30 large in price. Me thinks that is on topic.

I had an FJ between 2018 and 2020. I put 15k miles on it and just sold it with 195k for 20% more than I paid. The bluebook value went up that much.. I couldn't believe it!

Supply and demand

It's pretty simple to understand. It's called the law of supply and demand. Everybody wants them but there are very few available.
If 1000 people want something and only 500 exist, people will pay top dollar to get one of the 500. Prices go up and up and up. One just sold locally here in Indianapolis with something like 46,000 miles on. Whoever bought it paid more than $60K for it.
I'm glad I have mine.

Can confirm. I just paid $27k for a 2010 with 87,000 miles. Compared to 4Runner prices right now, it's not too bad. Definitely a bit harder to see out of then the 4R, but there's a cool factor the 4R can't match, to me at least. The FJ feels more solid than the 4R, if that makes sense. Both great trucks, collect them all.
