Anyone have experience with "smtruckworld" in Clearwater?

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has anything to say about SM truck world as far as alignments go.

I'm installing my Icon Stage2 kit this weekend which includes SPC adjustable UCAs. There's no way in hell I'm taking it to Firestone or some hack-job place like that. Too many bad experiences.

So, I figured I'd find a joint that specializes in lifted truck alignments.

Any thoughts or recommendations for a good one in the Clearwater area?

Thanks!

-Rob

They did my toytec boss lift and they did a great job. I also have kdss. They did a friend of mine too. I recommend them 100%. Are you on the Facebook group Florida 4runners? You will get a lot of responses on there.

Nope. Not part of that FB group. Thanks for the reply! As long as I don't hear anything really bad, I'll give em a shot.

Thanks!

So, to follow up on this.

I went over to S&M Truck World today in Clearwater, those guys are total dicks!

They're the type of guys you say: "How's it goin this morning?" and all you get back is a blank stare. a$$holes.

I was also super congenial with them from the moment I walked in there despite their attitudes, and they were just dicks the entire time. Not sure if they have a thing against Toyotas, or informed customers, or what.

They hated the fact that I installed adjustable UCAs and said that it was the worst thing I could have done to a truck. I guess probably the best thing I could do to a truck, according to them, is a 6" block lift with a 3" body lift.

They wanted to charge me more for having to "deal" with the SPC UCAs. Which I was totally ok with. whatever. They claimed it was a huge pain to work with. Fine. I was wiling to pay if they could do it correctly.

They wrote up the order. I told them I only have a few requests, one is try and get 4 degrees of caster, and the rest in factory specs, and to also not over-tighten the lugs. I explained to them that everywhere I've taken my truck, when I get back home, I can't get the wheels back off with an impact wrench. I was totally respectful with my requests

The owner crumpled up the work order, threw it on the ground, and said, forget it! I don't want the trouble! I don't want to deal with it.

I was expecting: "yeah no problem, our guys are good guys, we'll take care of you."

Or at least: "Yeah man, sorry, that's just too much to ask for." I would have understood, and gone somewhere else without issue.

Nope. None of that. Apparently, they have plenty of business and don't need mine.

I told them to go f%ck themselves, and left.
They're not getting any of my money, that's for sure.

It goes without saying, I do NOT recommend these guys.

I enjoy taking my trucks to people who are into what they do and are cool. These losers obviously hated what they were doing for a living and are only into churning and burning bro-lifts to morons who don't know any better, and who aren't going to hold them accountable.
These hacks were afraid of me because I knew what I was talking about.

After all the smack I talked about Firestone like places, I took the 4runner to Tires Plus on Gulf to Bay and got no guff with my requests, I purchased the 3year alignment for $130

If they don't get it right, I'll take it back. At least I received good service with a smile. The head tech there also used to work for Toyota Service and knew all about the 4runner. So that's a bonus.

Keeping my fingers crossed.

Heh, I used to live at the end of that dead end street behind S&M, I went there a few times for parts for my wife's Jeep TJ. Wouldn't bother spending any more money with them based on the way they treated me once they realized I wasn't coming in for rims/tires/lift. Surprised in this day and age anytime I hear about really poor customer service like what experienced, shops have to understand that internet commentary on their service isn't something just limited to nerds and fanatics online. Whatever, bro-dozer owners only care about one thing; lift it!

Yeah, I just got back from Tires Plus on Gulf to Bay/19. Great place actually. Very professional.
First of all, they did a good job. They also treated me well, and with common courtesy. They also said they had to take the 4runner over to their other shop to do the work because the machine at the other location would not scratch my rims because it grabbed onto the tires and not the rims like the one they had. I really appreciate that. They could have been lazy about it, and dinged my rims, but they did not. They took the time, and did it right.

They also finished the job in only 2 hours, and without appointment.

I'm going to take my wife's FRS to them next.

Welcome to FL dude. Where 1/2 bro lifts are the rage and douchebags are abundant. If I would have seen this post months ago, I would have been more than willing to let you bring your truck to my shop and help get the lift installed. My local ford dealership has been doing lifted alignments for years and their head tech. (Javier) is spot on when I tell him the specs I'm after. Genuine 4x4 shops are extremely rare occurrences and if you do happen to find one, get ready to pay for it. With that being said, I would like to see more and more people in FL to offer help and assistance because there is a legitimate shortage of knowledgeable shops anywhere in the state.
