Interest in potential group buy for Roof Top Tent (RTT)?

Hey Folks,

I'm in the market for an expedition-style tent for my 3rd gen 4runner but obviously want to save some $$ on the purchase. Right now, I'm investigating options to import some RTTs from overseas and wanted to see if there was interest in a group buy if I can get them at a reasonable cost.

For me, price and quality are the two biggest criteria for me as 1) I don't like crap, and 2) I'll be camping with my kid (soon to be kids) and want a safe and durable RTT. No idea what the price would be out the door, but I assume it would be less than the ARB Simpson III model.

For tent type, I'm thinking that it would either be a 2-person or 3-4 person tent with or without the annex (separate changing room). 2"+ mattress with cover, rainfly, etc. Would include the ladder and possibly the extension as well. Roof attachment would be via stock/aftermarket rack. Think "typical RTT" style tent.

I created a poll (my first, yay!) to tabulate interest. Please vote and let me know if this is something I should pursue or not for the forum.

Thanks, John

Surprised only 4 people responded (and I was one of them). Maybe getting a few of these in would be more hassle than it's worth.

I would think that they would be under $1000 not including shipping. About 30% less than comparable models I've seen online. However, with occasional sales, it may be less than that.

Do you have information on the model you are importing? Perhaps a link to the site?

Nope, just gathering interest right now. Assume something similar to the Mombasa or Tepui tents online.
