1999 4runner 4x4 tranny with IPT/Level10 Valvebody - $500 - Canton, GA

This is from the 4runner I've been parting out on the board. It was totaled in an accident and I bought it wrecked.

The transmission has around 200k miles on it. The last 20k miles of it's life it was behind a supercharged 3.4. When the supercharger went on the engine the transmission also got an upgraded valvebody. It is either Level10 or IPT, I am not sure and the guy I bought the car from didn't give me any paperwork with it. Story is he got the valvebody second hand from a guy that was parting out a build that never happened. It was new when he installed it in this transmission.

$500.

BUMP, make me a reasonable offer, you're basically getting a transmission for free when you consider the cost of the valvebody modification...

$500 plus shipping. I'm ready to clear out the rest of these parts.

Hey man, I'm within driving distance of you.

I'd like to get my hands on the valve body upgrade, but without any kind of paperwork or anything else, how do you know that the upgrade was even performed?

I'm a straight shooter so I'll give you a more honest answer than you probably want to hear. I don't know and I don't have any proof.

I think my price reflects that, the valve body upgrade would cost more than this entire transmission. I can tell you that personally, I spent $700 on a stock transmission from a junk yard when I had to swap mine and spent nearly $400 replacing the torque converter and front pump in that one when it decided to puke. For $500 you are getting a transmission with the upgrade valve body that came out of a running and driving vehicle.

I can tell you this, the truck belonged to a former forum member and was sold on this or another 4runner forum to a guy out of state. That is the guy that added the supercharger and valvebody to the transmission.

I did my research on the guy I bought the wrecked truck from before driving 12 hours round trip and buying something I couldn't hear run, etc. I felt comfortable doing that. He'd been on Ultimate Adventure, on the cover of Peterson's magazine, etc, sold other high profile vehicles on other forums. The guy was a total gearhead and everything that I saw that he owned was modded and modded the right way. This 4runner was a toy for them and by FAR the least expensive vehicle they owned. I actually found the vehicle when I came across his for sale add for the supercharger on Pirate4x4.

I'm confident it's got the upgraded valve body in the transmission and you are welcome to come and look at it and you can even pull the pan off of the transmission if you want. The ONLY reason this transmission is for sale is because of the differences between it and my 2001. Otherwise it would be sitting in the garage waiting for when my 2001 needs its next transmission (I'm at 260k miles).

Any idea if this will work with a 96 4unner? I thought I read somewhere that the 96-98 used 1 setup, the 99&00 used another, and the 01&02 used yet another style but I cant seem to find that post now.

If this would work in my 96, I may be interested depending on shipping. Im starting to get a slip shifting from 1st to 2nd on mine (supercharged) and having the upgraded valvebody would be nice.

I do not know for sure, I was under the impression that 01 and 02 (any maybe 00) were unique.

I think in the Tacoma there was 3 transmission generations but in the 4runner only 2.

The difference as far as I know is the electronic control vs the kick down cable, at least that was what was immediately obvious to me when I pulled it compared to the one in my 2001.
