Gauging interest in projector retrofits
OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS AND JUST A MIND-DUMP... I'LL IRON OUT THE DETAILS A BIT MORE BEFORE I START ASKING FOLKS FOR MONEY
Well, I have a few retrofits under my belt now, and have had a few people ask me if I'd be willing to put some lights together for them... I've kept saying no, but I think it may be time to offer up some assistance after driving in a halogen equipped 4Runner over the weekend. That cannot be safe, haha...
The catch... The only sets that I will be willing to do at this time are the BI-XENON MORIMOTO MINI STAGE III (D2S) kit from The Retrofit Source (I suppose I could do the H1 if for some strange reason you wanted that...). Later on I may be willing to do some FX-R's or something similar, but there are just SO many variables that could go wrong, and my wife would be VERY upset if I had to buy someone a new set of lights.
How it works for the first couple (two).
You send me money to cover:
New Headlights (OEM or Aftermarket, you can specify which you want)
TRS Retrofit Kit
(If you have an extra set of headlights, or do not mind a bit of down time, you can ship those to me, but I imagine that'll be pretty spendy.)
Once I recieve the goods I should be able to knock out the retrofit within 24 hours of receiving... Obviously I am a human, and things can change, but that'll be my goal. Once they're done, I'll ship them to you, and you'll pay the labor cost ($100)
After I do the first two and am better able to gauge how much of my time they're taking, I'll figure a price for everyone else.
Here are some pictures of two I have done...
(This 4Runner has had the front end rebuilt... Made it pretty difficult to get the cutoff PERFECTLY straight.)
This set turned out looking VERY good in my opinion... Highly recommend this "Bullet" shroud for a clean, "factory" looking option.

I am interested! Do you plan on painting any of the housings/shrouds black like many people do?

I'd be willing to paint the housing/shroud your desired color, but I would obviously need a bit more time in order to allow the paint to cure.
As it stands,
@ MyHigh
and
@ Oneluv13T4R
are the first two, but if one of them drops out, I can have you as the next in line.

I never really wanted to do this retrofit because I'm lazy and don't want to figure it out.
Alex, since you know how to do it, this seems a fair deal to me

That seems to be the general feeling toward them, I think. When I did my FX-R's it took me over a week to get them how I wanted them, and since I used my old headlights, that was over a week of no driving.
These "new" kits from TRS are so user friendly that I honestly think anyone that wanted to, could complete a satisfactory retrofit. However, for those that don't want to, I hope to be able to offer a service for a seemingly fair price.

When I did my retrofit, I used Infiniti M37 projectors/bulbs/ballasts/wiring. It took me so long to get it right, TRS is for sure the way to go for ease of installation.

$100 for the labor is probably fair. Too much for me, I'll do mine myself because I'm a cheap bastard, but for those that aren't willing to do it themselves this seems like a good deal.

$100 for labor seems like a great deal to me. I'll be watching to see how this goes.

You'd better get yourself an old used oven and put it out in the garage to bake all those headlights in, or your wife may be upset with you.
