I am not certain if the 5th gens have our rear resonators, I've been meaning to look at some pictures online to see.
But even if they didn't have resonators it still might be close enough to the exhaust pipe to rub with a strap through it, or pulling at different angles might snag the exhaust and crumple it so it would still be best to chop it short more than likely.
I took a reciprocating saw to mine and cut it so it exits right behind the rear tire which works well for me. Or like mentioned you can have a shop reroute it with new piping.
