This 4runner runs great and has been extremely reliable for me. I have mainly used it for road trips and never really had a chance to take it off road so it hasn’t been beaten to death. I drove it from Chicago to Los Angeles in December (2K mile trip) and have also done Chicago to Boston and Chicago to North Carolina (twice) since I’ve had the car (I purchased in 2020 – 3rd owner).
Looking to sell now since I live in Chicago and am not driving it (outside of road trips). I am in Los Angeles visiting family for the holidays and will be here for a few more weeks before driving back (if I don’t sell)
The pros:
• Brakes done end of 2021
• New alternator end of 2021
• CarPlay Head Unit installed w/ Maestro wiring harness
• 4x4 works and engages without issue
The cons:
• Typical paint / clear coat Toyota issues
• Typical V8 exhaust manifold leak
• Typical driver seat tear
• I backed into a pole in a parking lot and the rear bumper (driver’s side) has some damage. It doesn’t bother me but if I decide to keep the car, I’d throw a nice steel bumper on. The tail light was replaced since the lens was cracked when I backed into it.
• When I first bought the car, I spent many hours under the car with a wire brush and needle scaler to clean up the frame and prevent any future issues. There is still evidence of some surface rust around the car but the frame is not at risk of failing like many 4Runners you see out there.
