@mike5 "I bet those are aftermarket leather or pleather conversion"

Possibly a conversion kit and they could have taken it to an upholstery shop because it is definitely 100% the stock oem seat frame and just had new seat covers put on it but if that is the case the person who did it, did a great job at attention to detail at making it look similar to premium seats because the I pulled up a photo of premium seats on my computer and put it next to it and the stitching is identical. It's hard to see the detail in the grain of the seats because they took the photos inside a building and the distance of the photo, that would have been a for sure way to tell. It definitely would have been cheaper to change the seat covers than picking up a set of premium seats from some online junkyard part out company. They are super expensive to pick up from a totaled 4runner thats parted out and good luck finding them. Unless they were able to pick up genuine ones a different way. Either way this is what I do not want or what I am looking for when purchasing a 2010-2013 4runner trail got to have those cloth seats.

Could you add the KDSS to an SR5?

Please look at top of this page for my original reply to this quote.

I had been doing some googling and I did finally end up finding an upholstery shop in Oklahoma that will do an almost 1:1 conversion of the cloth seats to the premium style seats. They do it all in house and it's the same color, texture/grain, and the same stitching and it looks really good like you would have a hard time telling the difference but there are some very slight/small differences. So it is possible to convert (conversion kit) without buying the entire seat and just simple changing out your seat covers.

Try posting this question under the 5th gen section of the forum I am sure other people who are more knowledgable than me would be willing to weigh in. Anything is possible but it would be too much work and money involved in adding that on an sr5. I hate to say this but it would be easier and cheaper to sell your sr5 and then buy a trail/trd model that already has kdss. To buy it would be expensive and to be honest I don't even know where they would sell the entire KDSS unit by itself (because I dont know if Toyota would sell it by itself). I could be wrong but I think the KDSS is connected to the computer and so you would have to deal with that as well. The amount of hours to modify would be more costly than an already costly unit. Like I said please post this in the other section of the forum and I am sure you will get a better answer.

WTB 5th Gen 2010-2013 Trail Edition Western US

Adding this here, as I’m still a new member and we’re already talking about Trail Edition T4R. I’m looking at the following 2014 in Portland and wonder what folks think. I like the color, interior, features, and don’t mind the TRD grill and lights. Anyone surprised it’s still available after being listed for a few weeks? Due to the price and mods I suppose?

2014 4Runner trd off-road premium trail edition KDSS - cars & trucks...

Thanks,

Matt

For reference, I bought a 2010 TE (Nav, KDSS, etc) with 75k miles from an adult couple in Thousand Oaks last summer. Only adjustment since it rolled off the lot was front window tint to match the rear. Paid $23k.

I love it but also miss my 2000 Highlander edition 5 speed.

I looked for a decent deal on a 2011-2016 4Runner for the last 3 months. Prices all over but mostly high. If you find one you like you must move quickly. I missed out on a 2012 with Dobinson lift and nicely done. I am not afraid of miles, more concerned with condition. Some salespersons know little to nothing. I bought a 2015 Trail Premium, KDSS, remote start for 25.5k. 122k miles. Black with black leatherette seats. I did get them to switch my new Michelin AT2 tires from my Yukon to the 4R. Salesperson did not know what KDSS is. Appraiser did not care. I drove my last 2007 4R Ltd. 180k miles. Never an issue. I found it hard to compare 4R, it never seemed to be apples to apples. Good luck in your search.

Wanted to reach out and see how your search is going?

I am looking for a trail edition on the east coast at the moment and they are definitely not that common.

2010-13 Trail Edtion no Premium

Interesting I was wondering if my 2012 Trail was a premium: has KDSS, Nav, Power for both front Seats a Moonroof and sliding cargo tray. I guess the Original buyer added on every thing he could except heated leather seats.
I was not really wanting all the extras either but had been looking in my area for over a year and was willing accept it since it was very clean & low miles.
Its now worth more than I paid for it from the prices I have seen.

The idea of "premium" for the 4Runner did not appear until 2014. Prior you simply had 3 trims with some options. I suspect power seats are standard across the line. Same with sunroof.

The sliding cargo tray is standard on trail and optional on the other trims (at least for 2013).

You can check specs here: http://autotrends.org/brochures/2013...r-brochure.pdf
