2002 Toyota 4Runner Limited 4x4 – 207,5xx Miles. The car runs and drives well. It has been in the family since it was purchased new and for the last 20 years it has been a solid/reliable vehicle for us. However, our family of five now requires a larger vehicle so the time has come.
Some notable features include: Updated gas struts/shocks. Heated leather seats (front) and sunroof from the factory. WeatherTech floor mats. Updated stereo with Bluetooth. 4x4 with an electronic locking Diff. Power retractable rear window (my favorite feature). LED interior light conversion.
There have been relatively few modifications done to the vehicle and it has NEVER been lifted. The exterior paint looks incredibly good and has aged well. There are however some scrapes/scratches on the outside and there are some isolated areas of rust that has developed in just the last few years. While this is mainly on the rear bumper, there is also some on the rear passenger door sill as well as the driver’s door sill. When attempting to touch-up the driver’s door sill a few weeks ago I discovered that one spot had a small hole, I decided to stop since I was planning to sell the vehicle. I’ll leave how, if, and/or when this is repaired up to the next owner.
On the maintenance front this was mostly done by a dealership early on, however since I have been driving it (2014) it has mostly been done by me. Notable maintenance or upgrades since that time:
- Jan 2015 @ 155k: Replacement Headunit. Pioneer FH-X720BT
- Oct 2015 @ 159k: All new suspension. OME springs (99 SR5) and KYB gas struts/shocks
- May 2016 @ 165k: Fluid flush. Brakes, Trans, Front, Center, Rear Diff using synthetic fluid for oil
- Nov 2016 @ 178k: Sound deadening (Dynamat, Noico Liner, etc…)
- Feb 2018: Falken Wildpeak A/T3W tires (265/70R16)
- Mar2020 @ 202,993 Replacement radiator and hoses just to be safe (Routine coolant flushes prior)
- Oct2020 @ 203,844: Rust Repair on frame
- Mar 2021 @ 205,175: Replacement muffler and tailpipe
- July 2021 @ 205,755: Replacement Battery and Terminals
- Oct 2021 @ 206,229: Most recent oil and filter change
Maintenance wise, the flange connecting the second cat to the new muffler broke right before this past winter. I installed a temporary flange, which doesn’t make a perfect seal, as I was planning to either replace one or both cats this summer. I was also planning to flush the fluids this summer, however if I was buying the car it would be the first thing I would want to do myself, so I have left it.
A few years ago I noticed some frame rust beginning. I was planning to drive this into the ground, so paid to have a shop to remove it and weld in new steel. I have attached some photos.
I have a lifetime alignment for the car through Firestone. This is not transferable, however with enough notice I can have an alignment done ahead of purchase. I may try to squeeze this in anyways but last time I asked they were booked out over a week. If that is of interest, please let me know and we can work something out. Questions? Feel free to ask
