For sale for $8500 - my silver, 2000 SR5 4wd 4Runner with an automatic transmission and the 3.4 liter 6 cylinder engine. It has 212k miles and has been in my family since it was brand new. My parents sold it to me about 5 years ago and in that time I've put extensive maintenance and upkeep into it. It's primarily stock, short of aftermarket Old Man Emu (OME) suspension (details below). The frame is solid and overall the paint is in good shape, with small chips that you might expect for a vehicle that is 23 years old. It’s never been in a wreck and the title is clean.
In addition to regular fluid changes here's a list of most things I've done to the truck (with the year I did them):
- (2018) Timing belt, water pump and thermostat at ~167k miles
- (2018) Valve cover gasket replaced when the timing belt was done. There was the typical oil seepage from the back of the valve cover.
- (2018) New OEM spark plugs.
- (2018) Completely rebuilt the suspension, including every bushing in the controls arms, panhard bar, sway bars, and all ball joints (all ball joints are OEM). I used Whiteline poly bushings and they've held up well. Regarding the suspension, I used the OME 880 springs up front and 890 in the back. I preferred the 890 in the back over the typical 906 because the 890s have a softer spring rate. I used the "light duty" OME shocks. It rides firmer than stock and handles a load much, much better than the stock suspension.
- (2018) Added a JVC double din head unit and back up camera. It has Car Play and Android Auto.
- (2018) Replaced the steering rack. It was a new OE rack and I also replaced the tie rods. The bushings were replaced as well. The original rack had a bit of play in it and the new rack is much tighter.
- (2018) New stainless exhaust from the cat back. It sounds stock. The original had a hole in the muffler.
- (2018) Had to replace the catalytic converter because someone stole it. It's been performing just fine since.
- (2018) New hitch because the original was developing rust.
- (2018) Replaced all wheels with stock 17" 5-spoke 4runner alloys from a 2011. The originals were starting to pit.
- (2019) New LC Engineering alternator. I also did the “big 3” wiring mod.
- (2019) New radiator (I bought one from Napa and it's performed just fine).
- (2020) New MAF and TPS sensors. It was running fine, but throwing a misfire code. Turns out the MAF sensor was the culprit. I believe I used DENSO OE replacements.
- (2020) New OE fuel pump and filter.
- (2021) Installed a rebuilt half shaft from NAPA on the passengers side. The original developed a boot tear and started to click at full lock. The driver side is still intact. In fact, I still have the original if there’s interest. I didn't return it for the core charge because I had plans to rebuild it myself.
- (2021) New lifters for the rear tail gate. The originals had lost their ability to hold the rear gate up.
- (2022) Brake job, front and back, including new rotors, drums and pads. I opted to keep the stock setup (instead of the tundra upgrade) and they've remained solid since I installed everything.
- (2022) Rebuilt and re-balanced rear drive shaft. A u-joint went bad and I opted to rebuild the entire shaft. I found a local shop that rebuilt the double cardan joint and balanced the shaft as well. It smoothed out a vibration I'd been experiencing too, which was nice.
- (2022) New upstream and downstream O2 sensors. Again, the truck threw a code and this fixed the issue.
- (2022) New OE spark plugs.
- (2022) New Hankook Dynapro Extreme tires (265/70-17). I believe they're 6-ply tires. I didn't want heavy E rated tires on the truck. I've been impressed with these tires and will likely buy the same for the new truck I bought.
- (2022) New Duracell battery.
- (2023) I did some paint touch-ups on chips that were behind both rear passenger windows. The touch up paint (from "automotive touch up) is not an exact match, but is much better than having a chip that could've developed rust. Happy to provide pictures.
- (2023) New OEM headlight bulbs. At some point I also installed LED bulbs in the overhead interior lights, which are brighter than stock.
I typically keep the frame coated in “Fluid Film”, which is a lanolin-based prodcut that helps prevent corrosion. There are a few chips in the windshield, which my Dad had filled about 8 years ago. They haven’t spread in that time, and because of that I haven’t been inclined to replace the windshield.
Everything works, including the A/C and all windows (rear window too). It does not consume or lose any oil. We've used Mobil 1 synthetic oil and filters since new. It still gets 20 or so mpg on the highway, depending on the wind and how heavy my foot is.
Any questions, please ask. Thanks for looking.
