FS: 3rd GEN 98 4Runner ***parts vehicle*** - $5000? CAD - Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada
I am selling my manual transmission, 4x4, 1998 Toyota 4Runner SR5, v6. It is badly rusted, with some pretty sever frame rot – this is the reason I’m selling it (as well as the fact that I can’t happily install 2 car seats in the back) I have maintained it well over the last 8 years, but with all the rust, it is showing its age.
This vehicle will not pass a safety inspection without a good amount of effort so you will have a hard time insuring it. I am selling this as a parts vehicle or as an off-road/bush truck. Its in pretty good shape mechanically, but it also has 477,000km on it.
Known issues:
-frame rot/rust
-pops out of first gear
-power steering rack has leaked for as long as I’ve owned it, I’ve just topped it up every few months
-a new squeak has started withing the last month. I haven’t investigated it but I have a feeling its the front, driver side wheel bearing
-I just noticed in taking these pictures that there is a bunch of corrosion on the negative battery terminal. The battery is only a few years old, but it wasn’t an expensive battery either...
Major work done since I’ve owned the vehicle:
Sept 2016, 356,000km: 3” lift from toytec installed
-OME 881 front coils and 90004 front shocks
-OME 890 rear coils and 60073 rear shocks
May 2018, 413,000km: replaced clutch, pressure plate, throw out and pilot bearings, flywheel and rear main seal
June 2018, 416,000km: replaced interior AC system with OEM/Denso parts: evaporator, expansion valve, dryer & all o-rings
Nov 2018, 427,000km: replaced hand brake cable
May 2019, 436,000km: replaced cat back exhaust system with Walker Quiet-flow stainless steal exhaust
June 2019, 437,000km: new tired, Duratrac Wranglers LT265/75/16
July 2019, 440,000km: timing belt, replaced: timing belt, idler roller, tensioner roller, both front cam shaft seals, front crank shaft seal, water pump & gasket, hydraulic tensioner, thermnostat & gasket, crank shaft timing pulley and crank pulley bolt
May 2020, 454,000km: replaced both front CVs
June 2020, 454,000km: replaced windshield
Sept 2020, 455,000km: replaced alternator with AC Delco alternator
Feb 2021: new battery
July 2021, 459,000km: replaced both valve cover gaskets
June 2022, 467,000km: replaced clutch master/slave cylinders
I am asking $5000 CAD or best offer. I am trying to make a bit of money to put towards the 4th gen I just bought. I don't really know what the vehicle is worth but a reasonable offer won't be refused.
Just to re-stress this point: you will not be able to fix this for on-road use. It will find its best use as a donor/parts vehicle or an off-road bush truck.
