Bushpigs build/restoration

Hey guys

My name is Josh and this is my beast, 84 4runner, 2L 2.4 Diesel 5 speed.

Already had a 2" lift fitted when i bought it other than that its basically stock. I'm in the process of tidying up the paintwork and fitting some accessories to make it a nice tough truck. So stay tuned and watch for updates as we begin the build of BUSHPIG!

The first project is to tidy up the rough as guts paintwork. The previous owner has attempted to repair most of it but it still needs work so i sanded everything back with a 200grit paper, then wet sanded with a 800grit until smooth. then i wiped down with turps and applied a coat of rust kill primer.

Once dried i applied a thick weave of metal filler bog (see beasty hole below ) and now i'm waiting for it to dry overnight.

Should be able to sand down prime and apply paint tomorrow if the weather holds up.

Cheers, Josh

the rain has mostly held up today so i was able to get a nice coat of colour on...

here is the finished primed and sanded area, i wiped the area down with turps before applying paint.

ans this is 5 nice top coats applied

i'll give this a chance to dry and then colour sand, clear coat and polish!!

so as with any old car ive got some issues, 1st and 3rd gear are popping out and crunching badly when going in. i thought it was the shifter bush so i popped a new marlin crawler item in today and still no luck. ive been poking my head around underneath and found that the slave cylinder has a nasty leak so a new item is being purchased and installed tommorow... fingers crossed!

so the new slave has made a small difference to the feel of the pedal. it is firmer and feels good but the prob with 1st still exists. third also seems much better but i think the next step is to remove and teardown the box for an inspection.

so ive decided i'm not gonna bang my head against a wall too much with this whole gearbox issue. i wanna get her on the road so a reconditioned box is being acquired this weekend and will be installed on one of my long weekends coming up. as for the paint its coming along nicely. ohhh and big update some new 31" bridgestone desert duelers may have snuck onto the old "pig"

so ive installed the gearbox.... what a bas**** of a job but ive pulled a few boxes in my time so it wasnt tooo bad compared to some, still time consuming and dirty work, but the good news is on the test drive it drove like a little champion

all the paint is now done and for what this beast is (bushpig - a wild pig that inhabits forests) it is a 10/10 job by my standards. hopefully by the 26th Jan it will be on the road for Australia Day. its a public holiday here in aus and i intend on taking the pig to landcruiser mountain park for some fun!

Glad to see it's coming along for you, duf! Sounds like the syncro's were going south on your old tranny--glad the "new" one is doing well. There seem to be quite a few Aussies on here--are there a lot of old Toyotas running around down there, or is this more just coincidence? So what's next for the "pig"? (My brother used to work on the A-10 Warthog in the USAF--maybe I should call mine that-LOL)

theres not too many 1st gens but a few 2nd gens... i love the first gens, just classic lines. we dont have a 4runner specific aussie forum so i think thats why we all come here plus its good to see how other countries do things! once i get it registered i'm gonna extend my diff breathers and slap a snorkel on the side. and then probably an awning, roof rack and spotties
