Custom system with "TRD" box installed
Here are some pics. I will get better ones up when I get some time, but here are some for now...
Not sure how to post more than one pic at a time.
I was very impressed the work they did at the shop. They took out the JBL amp and sub (which was all in one piece), and built this box out of 3/4" MDF. The box was very intricate with many turns and corners. They built the box so that it would fit into the space left behind once the JBL was removed. They also Dynamatted the quarterpanel behind the box to reduce vibration. The box is about .80 cubic feet. That is a dual 4ohm voice coil L5 Kicker sub. They covered the box in the same color and textured vinyl that is in the rear of my truck, so it doesn't get any more stock looking than that! I also like the touch that the TRD adds. Very cool. I've got the Alpine 350 under the driver's seat powering it...350 watts at 2ohms. As for the rest of the system, I installed the Alpine HU, 9851 which is really easy to use. I've also installed a Sirius tuner that the Alpine controls, along with the PAC-SWIX to keep my steering wheel controls active. I replaced the front 6 x 9's with 6.5 Infinity reference components, and the rear door speakers with Infinity 2ways. They are powered by an Ample Audio Exonic ampy, putting out 60 x 4 to those speakers. The system sounds very clear and accurate. There is no vibration at all. I am still going to dynmat the whole thing (hopefully that will help with the resonance of my Magnaflow exhaust).
One other thing: my audio installer made it so I could keep my center channel and rear pillar speakers by running them directly off the Headunit. Just wanted to let you know that by replacing the whole system, I did not lose any speakers!

it looks great!
I love how they made it match the interior colors. The only thing I dont like is how boxy it looks, but for 3/4" mdf, its hard to make anything bend or curve.
Also, how do you like the THUMP?

It definately adds that missing thump from the JBL system. The clarity is unmatched, especially at high volumes!
I think the price for what I had done was well worth it. The install was a little expensive, but when dealing with the crazy wiring from the JBL amp, I was going to leave it to the professionals.
