Valley of Names

Decided today to try out the roof rack and gas can I picked up on a local trail to see how it would hold up. I orginally had a shovel on t but bungie cords don't work to well. So I threw it back inside.

Valley of Names is just north of Yuma on Picacho road heading towards the Picacho wilderness area. It's a little side trip off the main dirt and in a spot or two the trail fades a little bit and splits off in other directions. Basically, all the area is about a mile or two of desert that people have arrange rocks to spell names.

Here some of the photo's:

The rack (shovel was still attached in this photo)

The valley:

Some random photo's of the area:

Had to take some of my 4runner.

The basket setup held up pretty well, even at highspeeds on gravel/dirt roads and had very little wind noise at 75 on the highway. Somewhere along the well I lost one of the screws so the basket started bounce around.

very cool

I could not believe 200 people looked in on your post and photos and no one said a thing.

nice trip.

That is pretty cool, that people would respect the rocks already arranged and then copy the idea right in the same area.

thanks for posting up the photos

Yeah, that's cool. They have the same thing in Death Valley, and somewhere else I have seen that I can't remember. I have also seen it in a few places in Hawaii with white corral on the black lava.

Over here on the big island (newer island = more black lava rock to see) it is EVERYWHERE. driving on the highway theres just random things written out for miles. Some people have even tried to stop it considering it vandalism.

That's typical of most of my post. I'm use to it.

Ya, it's a little weird but I guess if you got the time why not.

That's where I saw it. Between Kona and the Airport, and I think there were some out by the volcano National Park.
