Well the new tires went on today.
BFG AT KO's in size 275/70/17

I swapped wheels with a guy that bought a new SR5 last week for my stock 20's then I traded the Dueler HT tires in on the BFG's.
I have a set of 2008 FJ 17 inch wheels I was going to put on but I think I like these better.Anybody local looking to buy a set of five FJ wheels? $350 for the set like brand new.

They had about a 1/8 inch clearance from the front inner fenderwell plastic when the wheels were turned the whole way.(Shown in the last pic)
Plenty of room on the inside. That is with stock 4x4 suspension. I have a 2 inch Toytec front lift spacer and Spidertrax spacers to go on this weekend.

Here are some pics....sorry she's so dirty but it was actually raining mud when the front went thru last night and it's only 35 degrees today and windy!
I know it's not THAT cold, but for Texas it is!

I see another mod here that you forgot to mention. You removed the chrome from the front of the fog lamps!

And it also looks like the chrome cover at the emblem cross piece is gone as well. I like it.

Yep, ALL the plastic chrome will be black. Personally not a big fan of it myself.

All these pieces are just plastic snap on trim pieces that come right off, pretty much like all new cars these days. There is an actual aluminum double boxed bumper under the plastic front bumper covers that attaches to the 4runner frame and is the same on all models.I have a Trail Ed. front bumper cover, rear bumper cover and mud flaps on order from my dealer to replace the Limited/SR5 squared bumper covers.

Where do you get the black snap-on pieces?

That would be your parts counter at your dealership!

ANY part that is on the T.E. or any part on a 4runner for that matter can be bought at the dealer. It may take some time as they are such a new model and parts are still being stocked but they can get it on order for you.You have to imagine that it is a matter of time before somebody,(knocking on wood)gets in an accident and has to have the parts to fix it.Parts that were ordered for me by the dealer are supposed to here within 2 weeks and they were ordered 2 weeks ago. So about 3-4 week lag time. We'll see!

If you are going to replace them yourself, when you get the new part you will see exactly how it attaches. Plastic clips and some parts have small screws on the back side or in the case of the bumper covers, 10mm screws/bolts all along the edges.

I took mine off ,prepped and then painted them satin black! I did work at a body shop when I was in high school and worked 2 years in the paint/fiberglass shop at a major airline here in Dallas but to be honest with you. It ain't rocket science!Painting is all in the prep work and quality of the paint.

how do you plan to "blend" the matte-black (more pronounced?) fender flare where the front bumper trim piece (Trail Edition) meets the stock fender trim (Limited)?

i'm really interested to see how this looks.

What are your plans for the antenna mass? I have a black stubby on my F150 thinking the TE is getting the same.

Not sure what your talking about but the flares are the same except they are painted the body color on the limited/sr5 and left natural black on the trail ed.'s. The front part of the flare is molded into the bumper cover on both styles and in the back the back part of the flare. They come in all black and have to be painted before putting them on.You would have to see them in person to really understand.
I had my Limited parked right next to a T.E. to check them out. There are a bunch of T.E.'s on lots around here. The bumper covers were painted off the car and then installed later in the assembly line at the factory ,same as all new cars as far as I know. All the metal parts of the car body are dipped for corrosion protection and then painted before they go to the assembly line. As a matter of fact my paint match between bumper cover and fender are off a shade when you look in good light.Flexible plastic/rubber parts such as bumper covers are not painted with the same type of paint as steel fenders and such.

See the lines for the bumper covers? There are little clips that attach it to the fender right under where you have circled and it's farther back from where you have the back circled.

A sweet T.E. for comparison

I'm going to leave it for now(it's black at least) as I do pick up much better reception then my last 4th Gen.
I listen to ESPN sports talk radio, FM 103.3 and 104.1 alot and in my last 4th it faded in and out alot depending where I was at in the metroplex. Not in the 5th ,it never fades in and out.Maybe it's the fm reciever in the radio as all the FM stations seem to lock in better, but I'm happy!
