I'm sorry to hear about your girl. I've been through the same in the past and it's never easy.

Great looking dog, but that's not how their coloration works. The colors don't mix depending on the parents color, they come out as what genes are dominant and which are recessive.
I know this after a woman I know swears up and down her dog was specifically part chocolate lab, and science be damned, that was the only color she was mixed with.

Lol ok I believe ya! I'm an engineer so I remember a bit about genes from my days in college and know that's how it works, but I'm curious how his fur is like that, but put him next to other black labs I've seen and they're jet black no matter what? And his brother had a gray undertone to his black fur, called a gray lab, apparently pretty rare. And how do red labs work? A chocolate lab with a reddish tone to the fur.

Hah, apparently the reds and silvers are mutations, but I dig the silver ones. With my mutt, the black from the lab genes totally dominated the Airedale coloration. I wish I knew more, but that stuff gets way complicated.

Agreed. Thanks for sharing! What else is in your mutt?

According to the DNA test, she came back as Labrador, Airedale terrier, and American Staffordshire. Since she just turned 11 today, here's a pic from this afternoon.

Oliver
This is one of the potential outcomes when a Rottweiler gets busy with a Blue Heeler. He looks like a rotty, but only 50 lbs. He was a stray we got from the pound at a year old, and one of his quirks is that he really doesn't like riding in a vehicle. He loves it once we get out in the wild though!

This is what Baloo does when you ignore this thread.
