Am I crazy?

So I went and looked at a 1st gen today the guy was asking $6700 (who in thier right mind would pay that anyway?)for, turns out it was leaking all sorts of fluids and rusty in quite a few spots. (needless to say I am NOT getting it0Anyway, after viewing the roominess of the back seat and cargo area, I think I want one. I think I want to get rid of my '96 that I love so dearly and get a 1st gen....has this happened to anyone else?

If it's an '85 still no, but it is the most sought after 4runner. 6700 is really high.

A friend of mine bought an '85 from an original owner, with 54,000mi. It was garage kept and flawless. He paid 6500.

Definitely walk away.

Oh yeah I am walking away from this for sure the dude seemed shady as hell, but then as soon as I got home I was on craigslist and here searching for a 1st gen near enough to go get. Oddly enough, the only one I found for more than $3k was a rock crawler with EVERYTHING you can imagine on it and in near perfect condition....so I am still lookin around hopefully something pops up from someone that is a real 4Runner person instead of some dude that happens to have a 4Runner

You're not crazy. You're not going to have as much power under the hood, and even once you're caught up on the mechanical repairs you're still going to spend a fair amount of time chasing squeaks and rattles. It's not as comfortable a ride as you're probably used to.

But it's still the most reliable, most capable classic truck out there. It will take you anywhere you want to go, and it will get you back, and it'll do it in style. I'm in love with my 1st gen, gutless rattlebox that it is. You'll love yours too.

Wanna trade for a 3rd gen that has NO rattles? God, I want a 1st gen soooo bad now. Preferably lifted straight axeled and on 35"s or more. I figure a '96 with 133k and with a perfect lovingly cared for drivetrain is worth a 1st gen ready to off road and daily driveable with chevy leaf springs and an ok interior. I love how big the back seat is. I can't fit my 3 kids in my 3rd gen comfortably but in the 1st gen the back seat has SO much room. I want one.

Probably not. Tell me it's a supercharged 4.3 with a manual and the factory locker, and I'll think about it though.
