You're not going to be a pizza delivery driver forever. Your 4runner will be fine as long as you respect it.
I agree, but I'm not the only one who mentioned to get a "beater car". Having delivered pizzas in the past, an inexpensive Honda Civic is perfect for that kind of work and doesn't cost that much so long as the OP has his other financial obligations met. Tips can add up, especially in nicer neighborhoods. If the OP's goal is a temporary job (say 4-6 months), then yes, his 4runner would be fine. If it's any longer, I would buy a "beater". In addition, having a fuel-sipping DD is great to keep around, and puts less wear and tear on your Runner. IMHO...

I'm not trying to single you out, however investing any money into a job like delivering pizzas just doesn't make sense to me.

Calculate your operating costs to see if it makes sense. Gas and maintenance. Plus if you do this long enough you’ll probably be in the “severe” operating category where you need more frequent oil and gear oil changes.

Another factor to consider will be the persistent smell of pizza in your 4Runner.

OP posted this thread 9 years ago. His pizza delivering days are probably over.

OP, if you’re still delivering pizzas to make ends meet, then go HAM!

Dominos had a tiny pizza car, designed and built by Rousch, that used the coolant to keep the pizzas warm in the back. It was a tiny Chevrolet.

If you could find a 3 cylinder 2 person car like a Geo Metro you would be bang’n.

Since I have a lot of experience with pizza you need to keep them flat and warm.

So no pizza on the floor or on the passenger seat. Remove the passenger seat and put a raised flat wood surface in its place or put them in the hatch that has been insulted from the bottom.

I attended the Pizza Expo in 2019 and had good look at the heated delivery vehicles that were available.

Dunno.... I do not see how you could make a profit no matter you drive. Only a suggestion, maybe look into something with better wages/benefits and skill development.
Keep positive and look around. Never know what's around the corner.
NEVERMIND, Just realized this thread is wayyyyy old.

The vehicle wear and tear is the often unforeseen bane of jobs like uber, lyft, pizza delivery, etc. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do for a bit though..

I think wear and tear + gas = $0.55 to $0.60 / mile. Standard delivery being 5 miles round trip. That's maybe 3$ in gas and wear. Average tip is about 3$ says my friend (delivery driver for over 15 years). I personally wouldn't do it in a 4Runner. Would need something with better gas mileage, imho

Best pizza delivery wheels are used Civics, Corollas and Prius. Keep the cost of ownership and operation to a minimum.
