Unhappy Need help. Fuek mileage comparison. 98 Limited V6 to 05 SR5 4.7

Hey guy I'm new here so HELLO! Anyways......I'm a car salesman and have been trying to find my Dad a newer 4Runner to upgrade to. He is currently driving a 98 Limited 4x4 V6 with 205,000 miles. He loves the truck. I found him a 2005 SR5 with the 4.7 V8 with full time 4wheel drive. Factory fuel mileage is 18-14 compared to 19-16 in the new one. Well he tows a 2200 pound boat and trailer from Columbus,Oh to Lake Erie around Cleveland, oh. About a 2 1/2 hour trip one way. He swears the new one got a lot worse gas mileage. This new one only has 70k miles and runs great. Another question there isn't a way to disengage the 4WD is there so he could just tow in 2WD? Thanks for any input and sorry for grammar. On my phone with a funky keyboard.

the AWD system doesnt really create enough drag to benefit converting to part time 4x4. that v8 should get noticeably better fuel mileage when towing than a v6, perhaps a tune up is in need? what kind of tires and size are on the truck? FWIW i average 17mpg mixed city and highway.

I don't see why there is going to be a drastic difference in towing mpg, should be low teens if not getting close to single digits with both vehicles when towing, the v8 is still a v8 and will consume more fuel when not towing because thats what they do, but should have a little of an edge when towing cause it doesn't have to work as hard.
