National Park Free Passes for Military and their families

Hope this wasn't already posted. Just learned about it last night myself.

Subject: R 301225Z MAY 12 - NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FREE PASSES

R 301225Z MAY 12

SUBJ: NATIONAL PARK SERVICE FREE PASSES
1. As part of the Joining Forces initiative to support our nations
service members and their families, the National Park Service has
announced an annual pass to active duty service members and their
dependents, granting free access to more than 2,000 national parks,
wildlife refuges, national forests, and other public lands around the
nation. This effort is a way to recognize our active duty military
men and women and their families and provide thanks throughout this
year.
2. Beginning on Armed Forces Day, 19 May, 2012, active duty Coast
Guard and their family members may obtain the new military version of
the America the Beautiful National Parks and Federal Recreation Lands
Annual Pass. The pass will be accepted at National Park Service,
U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Bureau of Reclamation, Bureau of Land
Management, U.S. Forest Service, and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers
sites.
3. Military members and/or their dependents may receive the annual
pass at any national park or wildlife refuge that charges an entrance
fee or other selected sites. Active duty members must show a current
valid military identification Common Access Card (CAC) to obtain
their pass. The pass is also available to dependents of active duty
personnel that show their Dependent ID card, DD Form 1173.
4. The annual pass covers the owner and accompanying passengers in a
single, private, non-commercial vehicle at recreation sites that
charge per vehicle. At sites where per-person entrance fees are
charged, it covers the pass owner and three accompanying adults, ages
16 and older. There is no park entry fee for children 15 and under.
5. While the pass is only available to active duty member and their
dependents, there are other discounted passes, such as the Senior
Pass, granting lifetime access to U.S. citizens over 62, for 10
dollars, and the Access Pass granting free lifetime access for
permanently disabled U.S. citizens.
6. For more information on the pass, please visit this web site for a
list of sites by state that issue the annual pass:

Thanks IB! (Semper Paratus).

This doesn't apply to us retired guys, but I just forwarded the message to my son and daughter who are both active duty Air Force.
