Found that an attraction in the neighborhood is listed in the Atlas. - Colorow's Cave. Made that easy!

There's another listed attraction less than a mile south of here as the crow flies, though a nine mile drive due to a lack of connecting roads. I'll save that one for the next AO challenge.

Let's stick with the Atlas Obscura for the next challenge.

AO challenge:

Trees of Mystery – Klamath, California
- Atlas Obscura

Trees of Mystery

Actually a pretty cool place. They have a gondola that goes up a huge hill and gives great ocean and redwood forest views.

This is 60 miles from me, so 120 round trip. I needed a good drive in the Taco; I'd been test driving 4Rs a lot and come close to buying 2 of them... which I want to do from the standpoint of owning another Runner... but which I don't want to do from the standpoint of money. This was a nice, comfortable, relaxing drive along the ocean on a perfectly crisp but sunny day, which gave me a good chance to reaffirm the Tacoma and eliminate the urge to get a 4R. Windows down, heater full blast, radio as loud as it can go...

.

.

NEXT UP:

Your adventure- mobile with a flagpole that is displaying 3 flags: American, state, and one other

.

.

Damn you, MeefZah, foiled again!

I drove all the way to Arizona for the Atlas Obscura Challenge to get a two-fer. On Historic Route 66, on the way to Oatman, I stopped at the Fish Bowl Spring.

“While driving this arid stretch of Route 66, keep your eyes peeled for a staircase built into one of the cliffs. It leads to a secret spring bubbling with life, tucked out of sight along the most famous road in the United States. “
“This minute, secluded oasis soon became a welcome refuge for the weary travelers and parched animals passing through. Because the water stems from a consistent natural source, the bowl remains full year-round. Locals frequently keep it stocked with goldfish (leading some to call it the “fish bowl spring”), and the snails clinging to its walls help keep the algae at bay so the water stays fresh.”

Fish Bowl Spring – Golden Valley, Arizona
- Atlas Obscura

In the Oatman ghost town:
“As the Old Route 66 ascends into the Black Mountains of western Arizona, drivers on the Mother Road will go dozens of miles without passing any signs of life—that is, until they are stopped in their tracks by wild burros.”
“If you find yourself in an authentic Wild West mining settlement with a donkey in your path, congratulations: You’ve arrived in the Route 66 ghost town of Oatman, Arizona!”

Only one place around here with three such flags. San Jose Hall of Justice. Where the bad guys go. And the unfortunate traffic scofflaws.
USA flag, CA flag, City of San Jose flag.
I had to stop in a red No Parking zone, and jump out for a quick photo, with cameras and probably guns trained on me. Ha!

Reminds me of this vehicle I saw a couple years ago at a local grocery store. What a waste of a '69 Impala!

I don't think I'll go looking for it to get a picture for the challenge, though.

Just came across this thread, wish I could join but on deployment and nowhere near my 4runner. Guess I'll have to wait till I get back.

I'm a simple man. Steel wheels. Analog gauges. I like a functional lift. Couple inches, max. Muscular but not steroid induced freakishness. You guys get it.

Next up, your non brand non model specific 4 wheeled conveyance with A MAILBOX THAT IS MORE THAN JUST A PLAIN OLD BOX. Examples would include a miniature log cabin mailbox, a miniature barn mailbox, a steel box painted with a bucolic country scene, etc. If it's more distinctive than your standard ol' box it qualifies.

Well, I guess it’s a mailbox representing a happy stick family on a mossy roof.

Next up:
Your rig with a Volkswagen Beetle. The old type 1 style, not the new version with the flower vase on the dash.
