DIY Fishing Rod Rack

Im trying to come up with a way to carry some fishing rods inside my 5th Gen. And after walking around Lowes for a few hours I think I have some Idea of what I want to do but Id like to get some opinions or critiques before I buy everything and make it.

My idea is to start with 2 1"x3"x8's and cut them down to fit between the rear cargo clothes hangers and the back seat clothes hangers. Drill 6-8 1.25" holes in both sets to hold the rods, and line the holes with felt to keep them from scratching the rods.

I plan to either use one long length of bungee cord along the rear rack or use a couple inches of small bungee cord at each hole to keep the rods from sliding back and forth(though I haven't decided how to mount the cord yet, I don't want to just staple it to the board, I want it too look good.)

As for mounting the racks, the only idea I have at the moment is drilling a small hole in each end and using either bungee cord or Paracord, and making a loop to hang it on the hooks.

Once I'm done with it, the whole thing will be sanded and stained.

I'm open to any ideas you guys have to make it more stable, or anything you can see that you might have abetter way to do. I'm gonna try and draw up something to give you a better idea of what I'm talking about, but be forewarned, an artist I am not.

Sound like converting the 4runner to a contractor van.

I put a clothes hangar bar made for cars across the passenger seats on the over head handles, then if you have a drivers side over head handle, you can do the same up front. If you are that creative, you can put handles in the back to keep everything out of your face then another bar there too. Or, put the bar over the passenger seats, then get a roll bar in the back to use as your support in the back (this is what I plan on doing as soon as I find a cheap roll bar).
