Ratcheting Noise when turning steering wheel

I have a 2015 4Runner limited with 8k miles on it. In the last two weeks we started hearing a ratcheting noise when turning the steering wheel. It only occur when we have the left turn signal on. It doesn't happen when the right turn signal is on. Anyone else have the same issue and can tell us what the problem is?

2011, 4.0L v6, Limited.
When I start the car there is a faint knocking sound coming from the engine. Sounds like a cam or rocker arm or valve or something. The knocking sound disappears after the car is warmed up and you can typically only hear it when the transmission is in park. I dont think this is a huge problem but given that there is a slight knock I do want to be as proactive about it as possible. Any suggestions on what this might be from? Suggestions on how to fix this?

Thanks!

97 3.4L SR5

Loud whine from the front, louder when the steering wheel is turned either way. I know its the power steering pump, but figure I'd post about it anyway since I can't start a new thread.

Temporary fix to make it silent for the drive home upon purchase: Motorcraft Friction modifier

Is this the place to post about noise issues?

Not sure if this is a place to post my noise concern or just a post about how to post about my noise problems, lolol.

Anyway, here is my noise issue:
1992 v6 3.0L automatic with a 2" body lift (so cute I can barely stand it!)

Let me start by saying I am not an experienced wrencher at all. I know more about my vehicle than the average chick maybe but am, by no means, a mechanic. I can change spark plugs and oil and tires and so far that is it. Maybe you Toyota heads can help me learn some more....

I get a chattering/vibrating sound upon acceleration. It does not compromise the power or revs. I though maybe it was a heat shield, but mechanic says no. I was looking under there yesterday and the only loose thing I found that jiggles and makes a sound that may be the noise is something towards the mid to front portion of the shaft. It is a G-shaped thing that goes around the shaft with a little tiny boot at the bottom. I don't know what that part is. It's maybe 11 inches big from top to bottom. I should also mention that my shifter is totally loose, I don't need to press the button to move between gears. I am sure that is not good. Could it be related to my noise issue?

My cutie is at the auto body shop today Otherwise I would post a pic of the part in question.

Thanks for reading! Pardon me if this post is in the wrong place.

Noise problem with 95 4Runner

Hey so I have a 1995 4Runner just joined this forum and trying to find some answers/solutions to my problem, so I turn the key on and the radio does not turn on with it so I hit the power button on the radio and for about 10-15 seconds I hear a loud grinding noise coming from the passenger side behind the glove box, I've taken the glove box off and can't see much that would be grinding, so I was wondering if anyone knew what was going on or had this problem as well
Thanks

Seems like your antenna motor. Do you have an antenna mast? If so, does it raise and lower when you turn the radio on/off?

My mast is missing, but my radio works. The motor runs 10 seconds while it tries to raise and lower the antenna. You'll need to access the motor through the fender well. Search for "antenna mast replacement" and you'll find several posts that detail how to do it.

2000 Limited V6 4WD Auto Noise on deceleration

I was hoping to start my own thread and hopefully get some responses but I am not able to as I do not have any posts. I am fairly mechanically inclined and have been involved with other car enthusiast forums. I have a 2000 Limited V6 4WD (198k miles) that is making an odd whining noise on deceleration.

The noise is somewhere between a screech and a whine and is dependent on load and rpm. It occurs once I let off the gas and changes sound a bit as the RPM's drop. Under load (acceleration), the noise is muted as far as I can tell. Once I let off the gas, I immediately hear it again. When I first run the truck in the morning, it does not seem to happen until I get out of second gear. Once it hits 3rd once, it seems to happen on each deceleration (all gears). It is particularly audible when the truck is holding gears longer while warming. It seems to be coming from directly under the truck and I believe the transmission. Everything feels and shifts fine including 4WD. Fluids have been changed and did not show signs of burning or contamination. I do not have a place to work on it and have not been able to drop the pan/check the screen.

When the noise started last year, I figured the transmission was on the way out so let it be but be prepared. It has now been about a year and 10k miles. It is especially prevalent in temperatures below 50ish degrees and was not very noticeable in summer temperatures (if at all). It decreases slowly as the truck warms and used to go away almost entirely but has gotten progressively louder. It still quiets a bit as it warms up (10-15 mins of driving). Therefore, I do not think it is dependent on coolant temperature and suspect it is from the transmission so is muted when the ATF warms. It does not have a "humming" noise like wheel bearings do when they go bad nor does it have a knock like when a rod bearing lets go.

Right after I bought it last December, I started it to drive to the next state over. I luckily walked around it since it was new to me and heard a gurgling noise. Under the truck, transmission fluid shot everywhere. Instead of the pink milkshake of death, the fitting from the transmission cooler broke off of the radiator and spit the fluid everywhere. The truck was shut down immediately and repaired properly (new OEM rad and fluid). I did check the transmission fluid a few days before that and it was not low. I do not believe the tranny was run significantly low for any length of time. A funny little excerpt from this story.... Imagine a Honda S2000 driving 2 hours with a truck radiator in the passenger seat in December with no choice but to ride top down. I had moreso imagined the 4runner fetching parts for the car instead of the other way around.

I felt like I was writing a riddle of sorts while typing this but I was hoping maybe somebody experienced something similar or had some ideas. I'd like to be able to drive the truck without worrying but it has certainly been bothering me. I was hoping to describe it without entering my suspicions of it being transmission to get some objective views. It doesn't happen in park or neutral and comes from directly underneath the center of the car. I do think that is the root of the problem. Anyone know of a good 4runner mechanic in the Baltimore area? I will try the regional forum when I am allowed. I would appreciate any experience based input to this riddle...

2002 T4R Sport 4x4 noise solved

I was getting a driveline noise only above 20mph and only on deceleration. It was something like the screech of a small bearing and did not change with brakes or vary in pitch under any circumstances. Was driving me crazy.Thought maybe water pump or idler bearing as the truck was due for the timing belt/water pump service. Did that with no effect on noise.

Dumbf***s at a local shop diagnosed a corroded front slip yoke and with that diagnosis made the noise go away. The noise came back in about a week so I took that apart, cleaned it up and re assembled - problem not solved. Still don't know what they did to make it go away other than maybe some overspray??

As it turns out it was the double cardan(?) joint at the front of the rear drive shaft....you know - the one I was SURE I greased!

There are 8 grease fittings between the 2 shafts: 2 front shaft U joints, front shaft slip yoke, 2 U joints at front of rear shaft + cardan joint, one U joint and one slip yoke at rear of rear shaft. Don't quit until you count 8! 50 cents worth of grease twice a year can save you a bunch of misery.

Dealer says its all good, but I've not noticed it on my other cars.
My 2014 LE does the same thing. Only vehicle I've ever driven that makes that sound. Got used to it. I've had my vehicle since June 2014.

Squealing noise when reversing in 4x4

Hello, new guy here. Owner of a 1999 4Runner SR5, automatic transmission.
I currently have a problem with my truck. When reversing in 4x4 and under heavy load there is a loud rubbing/grinding/squealing noise. Someone outside of the truck said that it came from the rear or middle.
Everything is normal if I reverse in 4x4 on a plane surface.
In 2wd everything is normal as well.
Help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Hello, I have the same issue on my 2015 SR5. Just wondering if you ever found the cause/fix for this issue? Please let me know. Thanks!

2018 TRD Pro here, just hit 1,000 miles this weekend and I have the same issue. Not a fan since I don't bump the radio all the time. At first thought it was my shoes squeaking but it sounds almost like hydraulic/brake fluid in the lines. I guess I'll have to get used to it or just turn the radio up.
