Picked up a Smittybilt Overlander RTT on an accidental super sale, otherwise I wouldn't have a RTT any time soon. I generally try to shy away from SB products, but quality on this tent looks pretty good to me. Hoping to spend Christmas day in the Ozark National Forest and we will use the RTT.

Don't know if this is where I should put this, but I contacted Sunday Campers in China and the pricing is pretty nice.

I'm in the boat where I really want an RTT, but will probably only use it 2-3 times a year initially, so I don't need a really nice one. Honestly, the pricing is such that if it lasts 2 years, I'll be happy, will have gotten my feet wet, and know whether or not upgrading to a name brand is worth it.

Wholesale pricing hits at 10 pcs, the ones I'm looking at are almost exactly the Tuff Stuff Ranger or Elite - same design, same fabric. Gauging if there is enough interest for me to manage the order and pick up 10. Pricing is about 1/2, but obviously there is risk and customer support may be a challenge.

Thoughts?

Worked out great for us. Smittybilt Overlander RTT on Gobi stealth with adjustable crossbars. Next time I put it back on I will be using some Yakima crossbars, the Gobi crossbars sit too low into the rack and make it a huge pain to tighten the bolts down. Probably going to switch out the mounting hardware plates for exhaust U-bolts since I have round crossbars and the plates bent up a little bit when I tightened it down.

since you have removable cross bars, mount them to the tent bottom before loading on the rack. then all you have to do is just tighten cross bars to the rack which isn't bad at all.

That is actually what I ended up doing after the fact, but still more difficult than I cared for. I picked up some Yakima crossbars locally pretty cheap and will be using those for it so I can keep my Gobi bars on there for other stuff.

Sorry, didn't see this post. Roam's tents are made in the exact same factory as ARB, Tepui, etc. In fact, my Roam Vagabond is IDENTICAL to my buddies Tepui Autana Sky in every way.

sorry to bring back a dead thread, better than starting a new one.
there was another "All things Overlanding" thread that I tried too but it seems to be hacked. Maybe MODs can delete it or fix it.

anyway for those with a CVT RTT, I was watching this guys YouTube video YouTube and about 3mins20secs in he shows the inside of his tent and he has bungees or something like that keeping tent sides tight for transport/packing. Does anyone else have these / use these? If so are they helpful for packing up your tent. I love my tent but I always have too much fabric spilling out the side and wondering if these help keep it all together.
CVT doesn't sell them on their site or include with tents any more making me think they aren't helpful but they said they have some laying around if I wanted to buy a set.

i don't have them with my summit series. in fact i don't even have the rings that they attach to inside. my buddy has a smittybuilt and he does have them and uses them. he says it helps keep everything inside when packing up and easier to pack.
i'm with you and there does seem to be some excess material hanging out. I have started leaving the doors at each end open and stuffing it into there. seems to help some but i'm not sure there is a "best" option

I have the pioneer series, guess I better check to make sure I have the rings inside.
thanks for the info. I may order them since they aren't too expensive. cant make things any worse, other than an extra step to pack/unpack.

I ended up ordering the bungees and got them this week. I tried opening / closing the tent with and without them. it definitely helps keep the sides in better. im sure over time they will lose their elasticity but for the time being they will be helpful

I have been working on this idea since last summer and I was finally able to get it out and play around with it. All of you with RTT's know the difficulties of loading it especially if you do not have any help. After many other trial and errors I came up with this design. I wanted something I could break down and store in my garage and something that would be effortless (so no pulleys). This breaks down in to 3 sections and I can store it all in my garage off to the side and not take up much room

I basically roll the vertical/horizontal post out to my driveway on top of the bottom piece. The post holder is held on by lag bolts to attach to the bottom piece. I then tip it on its back and slide the vertical post in to the post holder. I then lift the post up and sort of walk it up slowly so it stands up (wheels locked) but does not go crashing down. Then I will put the tent on the bottom piece, raise it up and roll it under my car, lower it down and wa-la. Reverse steps to be done

The bottom piece is 2 x 5' long 4x4s with 3 x 2x8s that are 3’ wide so it can fit between my tires under the car

The vertical post is a 10' 4x4 cut down about 8" adjusting for the height of the bottom piece. overall height of the whole thing is 128" and I need ever single one of those inches.

The horizontal top piece is 6' long 4x4 (I will trim it down some) with an electric host in the middle and variety of scrap wood holding it in place

The post holder is a variety of scrap parts. Due to the warpness of the wood I made it just over 4" and jam a piece in there to firm it up. I also added an angle 14" 2x4 for rigidity. It is then mounted to a 2x12 which is then lag bolted to the bottom piece to break down easier

The weak point is the post holder to the bottom piece. I have an idea of how to correct this and will try to get parts this week. Right now it is using lag bolts I had laying around, I will get longer bolts with bigger washers. I will also add one more 2x8 under so its all wedged together and this should firm it all up and strengthen it

This looks like a great idea! I'm in the Denver as well, I'd love to come take a look at it some time and see it in action if you are open to that.
