USMC using Goodyear Duratrac
Interesting, just came across this. Think these are the same off the shelf Duratracs?

I'm not sure I'd use these for military use due to the thin sidewall compared to other tires. I run them and have a second set waiting to be mounted but my life isn't depending on them like these guys' are.

I'm not sure, but in the past when the military has used Goodyear tires they usually weren't the typical civilian tire construction. I'm thinking that they are probably a special mold for military use only. I agree, they are a great tire I run them as well but my life is usually none dependent on them.

More than likely a Military Grade or LT tires, but typically military vehicles run Run Flat Inserts and/or use specialized tires with rigid construction to help combat blow-outs so I doubt they are off the shelf Duratracs.

I keep hearing about the thin sidewall on the Duratracs, but I also keep seeing them on mining and oil rig trucks out here, and those guys are hard on their tires. I'm not sure these tires are as suspect as we think they are.

Lol, nope they are still thin. Seen them cut and felt the thickness.
I'll keep an eye out for a set on a Humvee while I'm over here. From what I can tell they only run the newer BFG Baja and the old style Goodyear MTR. Two badass tires!

Those are Mil-Spec Duratracs.
They are identical to civilian tires, but they carry a "US Gov't only" stamp and cost 1500 dollars each, and can only be installed on special mil-spec rims that cost 5000 dollars each, in a factory in Harry Reid's district that pays its employees 150 dollars an hour.

One of the times I was in Iraq, we had a couple hummers with Super Swampers. No idea where the hell they came from though.

I really liked the old style MTRs. Wish they still offered them.

They still make 37x12.50x16.5s, not sure if the public can buy them though.
I agree, i ran a set on my early bronco years ago and loved them. Great tire, not great in the mud but awesome everywhere else. I hate mud anyway.
