I'm trying to get my 2012 navigation updated, but

The dealer asked for the part number on the faceplate of the radio. I gave it to them : P10121 : and they say thats not a number that toyota lists. He gave me four numbers (two started with an E, the other two I don't recall). Anyone else have this problem?

Pretty sure you just need to buy the U93 Version 11.1 disk.

They're telling me that mine doesn't use a disk. Like they have to connect a cable or download it wirelessly. They can't explain it.

There are two different styles based on the model you have. Some use the disk, and others have a hard drive that needs to be updated. Just take it to the dealer. They don't need to know anything until you get there, and they can find out when you get there. I have a friend that just told me this, and he works for a local Toyota dealer.

The reason I'm trying to figure this out is that I'm taking it in Monday for the 25k service. The last time I took it in I requested the update. "They only have one guy who can do this update, and he wasn't there". I want to make sure that guy is there when I go Monday. Just wondering if anyone else had seen this problem, or had the same P10121 unit I have.

I made a comment about this in the 5th gen forums (in this thread Radio wierdness solved ) Toyota's information for identifying radio head units is absolute garbage half the time and is very difficult to work with.

You're on that borderline year where EnTune was starting to become standard for vehicle so as was stated you either have a disk or a USB port to update with.

For all our new systems we have about a dozen USBs to choose from for the various head units we make, because as I stated in the thread I linked we have 4-5 different manufacturers who make the head units, then another half dozen variations of those units; all of which is no at all clearly explained by Toyota. As for having "One Guy who can update" I don't remember there being a requirement of technician to update a customer's system, but its possible that guy is the only one who knows how to wade through the BS that is their Update Chart.

Thanks. That's great info, but ridiculous. I'm an airplane mechanic, so I understand wading through BS. Any time I have to do something like that, I have one of my mechs sit with me to learn about it. Guess I'll see what happens Monday.

They finally figured out what digital version/update I need. So now they have to "send off" for an access code. It will take a week.

Why in the hell does it take a week? It's not like they have to wait for a snail mail CD, right? It's a digital upload.

From what I understand, it's a USB thumb drive with the information in it (of course). Yes, snail mail. Apparently, it is downloaded to your HU via some computer at the dealer. This is what my father's Lexus RX350 has to go through to update it's map info.

Very stupid.

You might want to make sure your Entune is up to date as well. 3.2 is the current version if I remember correctly.
