Thoughts on this prospective purchase. Need some advice.

Please see attachment.Hi there. New here and look forward to jumping into the 4runner world. I have wanted one for a long, long time. My wife and I are expecting a baby soon and are needing to expand on the vehicle front. I have been looking and researching for some time now. I have been disappointed with newer 4runners in terms of miles to price ratio. Don't really want to drop 20,000$ for a rig with 100,000+ miles. Though I know they are worth it. This rig looked very promising and I have spoke to owner. Seems legit. I am going to check it out in a couple days. I know there is a lot to it but, thoughts??? I think the price is a little steep still and would have it inspected by a trusted mechanic buddy of mine. If I could get this for cheaper and it checks out I think it would be a great opportunity. I plan on upgrading stuff over time but want to start with a good family rig. Thanks for looking. This forum is great! I look forward to being part of this community. I hope attachment is viewable. Figuring this all out.

$10 grand for 15 year old truck with a rebuilt title? No. Even with pics to prove his minor damage claim, I'd be dubious.

Yeah. I don't like the rebuilt title aspect at all. Would stay away but owner said crumpled door, replaced with same color door. No other damage or tweaking with some paperwork on the issue. I would have it gone over well and would like to talk down price. Might just walk away from it and keep looking. Thanks.

Maybe I am mistaken, but I thought when it was a modified title (due to damage) that the damage that caused said title modification, had to be pretty freaking bad. Here in Texas, they only modify the title when the insurance decides that the vehicle is worth less then the repairs that it requires. There are lots of 4Runners out there. I would steer clear of this one. I mean really, isn't your wife and baby worth wwwaaayyyyy more than that?

The added safety features of a 4th gen are worth it to me.

a 2000 4runner doesn't have stability control, and ABS is optional. 2001 and newer have them. Some people don't like those features, but the truth is they do help, and they can often do better than even a skilled driver. They can react faster than you can, and they have more information about, and control over, each individual wheel than you have.
Crash tests were not as advanced back then, so even if the 3rd gen did well, it may have been tested against a lower standard or gone through fewer tests than newer vehicles, depending on who was testing (IIHS or NHTSA).
Side airbags are optional on 4th gens before 2008.

I love it. "Branded title." On what planet is "branded" an acceptable euphemism for "SALVAGE TITLE?"

No way is a salvage titled 4runner worth $10k. Also not sure what state that's in (Vancouver -based CL could be either WA or OR) but IIRC a salvage title vehicle does not have to have a correct odometer disclosure meaning that the actual mileage could be way higher and it still wouldn't be fraud. So I would take the "91k" miles with a grain of salt.

I would run away from that. For $10k you can do a LOT better.
