Big Old Dogs (getting them in & out)

How do you get your big dog in and out of your 4Runner.
My dog weighs about a 140lbs and he's getting old and not too good at jumping into the truck by himself. And I worry about his joints when he jumps out.

Whats working for me right now is a thing called the "otto step". Which is a heavy duty plastic step that I slide into the trailer hitch. It's not too big so it doesn't take up much room in the back. It's light so When I need it I slide it into the hitch, he climbs on it like a regular step and then climbs into the back. Once he's in , I yank it out and throw it into the back. It's pretty easy.

When I bought the 4Runner I put a side step on . I thought he could use that to get into the back seat but the back door is too narrow and high. Then I tried a ramp but he didn't like the ramp. I thought about the "twi-step" that orvis and a lot of other places sell but decided to go with the "otto step" since it was cheaper.
So far the otto step is working great.

Have a Dane and large Lab, neither will use the ramps we got so I use the tried and true "human elevator"

I was using the Human Elevator too.
Lifting him down was OK... but I'm at the point where I am starting to get weaker, so bending over and lifting a bulky 140lb fur ball is putting a little stress on my back. So I needed other options.

I've seen some carpeted pet steps online for pets to use to get up into tall beds. That might be something to look at. Some of the steps are pretty big.

Maybe something like that would work for the dogs that don't like ramps. I'll be getting something like this in a few more years when my 85 lb lab gets older.

When I run my friend's big lab I have him put his front paws on the rear bumper, then lift his back legs up and he "walks" into the cargo area.
