I got my Runner about a year ago. I replaced the battery a few months ago, but the one that had been in it was put in 8 years ago. The previous owner had lived in Flagstaff, so I think once it got to the heat it was like "Eh I'm out." 8 years is the longest I've ever seen personally.

Never more than 3 years.

I leave my vehicles outside and cranking it in the bitter cold kills all of them.

my 06 still has the original Panasonic battery. last winter on very cold days, or any time I didn't drive it for 3-4 days, it would crank slow.

a few weeks ago I checked, and the water was low. I topped it off, and gave it a good charge. it has been good so far. we will see how it does this winter.

I never changed battery for my cars.

maybe I never drove a car older than 5 years. Now, I have 2 new cars and i drive them in turn. In next 10 years, each car will have a mileage of 100k. Does the life span of battery depend on age or mileage?

I've got a 2005 Sportster still rocking the factory battery. As for my 2006 4Runner I had to replace the OEM Panasonic last summer.

Freeze/thaw cycle is murder on batteries. Mine usually only last 3 years.

We just had a 2007 T4R in the shop....customer dropped it off thinking it needed a starter.....battery was only putting out only 125cca but was the original battery. Had over 150k miles on it.

I have only had batteries fail on cold dark nights when it is freezing rain outside. So I just started replacing them every 5 years. I don't even test them, just change them out. Never had a problem since.

My '07 gets garaged, no more late nights working anywhere. Still on the original.

I have a red top optima battery since 1995. I got in my Econoline
Van when I bought it. The battery came out of Ditch Witch trencher so it was used. It will not start my high compression Mustang any longer but I can move to about every other car I have and it works. This battery has both terminals so I can even put it in my 79 Firebird. Currently it's starting a Toro diesel mower.
