Are there any cons towards owning a 22rte ? I bought my 87' about 2 years ago for $2,800 with a cracked block. At first i was excited for the fact is was a stock turbo. But finally owning my truck i realized parts were hard to come by. i finally found a complete engine with a good block in riverside ca, junk yard. the owner told me it had 100,000 mile (yeah right) which set me back $1,200. three months later after the warranty expired it started leaking oil and water (just my luck). So thats when i decided to do a full rebuild at a shop in clairmont ca, called "Engine Pros" ( not so pro) which cost me $1,600 on top of the $1,200 already spent . so im $5,600 in the hole . Im well aware that i could of bought a good trail ready truck for that price. So i did the rebuild and only put 4,500 mile in one year till the head gasket blew. "Engine Pros" blamed me for the malfunction . Long story short im looking into rebuilding again but am questioning whether to rebuild my 87 or sell and start a new project.
To be honest I would just sell it to recoup and look for a new rig. You'll always find some little issue with a 15+ year old vehicle but unfortunately it seems the one you have is just bag juju.
