That's the only reasonable explanation I could come up with. Maybe not Rhino, just some form of large animal. It won't work for bulling through brush or trees because that would destroy the front lights and crosses.
So either protection from large animals, or else protection from overly promiscuous women. Or just compensation. Or just a practical look taken to a ridiculous extreme, like how wide-rim beach tires led to the stretched tire fad.
