Cool article about the 4Runner's heritage

Was the Toyota 4Runner the Best SUV of the '80s?

Thks Lolrax for link, real good read....reminded me of their competition, from Japan.

I once owned an '89 Nissan Pathfinder, loved that thing....served our young family, extremely well.
I bought it from a school mate at University night school.
- it was a 3.0L-v6, auto, 3 years old with 43,000Km
- but no PW, PDL and no AC...
The SUV was perfectly sized, but a 2 door SUV sucked if adult had to crawl into the back seat.

Wife drove it for several years to work, next I drove it for a number of years, and finally was handed down to our 16 y/o son (his HS ride).
- after 14 trouble-free years, it was sold to a new owner / now wearing 335,000 Km and never used a drop of oil
Oil spray undercoated faithfully, it never developed any rust spots.

Didn't know much about the original 4Runners back than - just not common on roads, around here.
- now my wife & I each have a Toyota (GEN3 - RAV4 / 4Runner) and son drives a Lexus RX350...all 3 in black, another first
- so I did smartened up...LOL

I had a first gen 4Runner - I bought the first one the dealer had with a back seat...loved that truck, drove it for 10 years.

I also bought a first gen FJ when they came out, ordered it from a dealer without ever actually touching one. One of my best vehicles. Also drove it for 10 years.

Now I'm back in a 4Runner....

No, the best SUV of the 1980s was the 62 Series Land Cruiser.
