Info Needed on 4th Gen V8 4WD disabled

Need some good information as I am looking at purchasing a 2004 4Runner limited V8. The owner states the full time 4WD has been disabled by removing the front driveshaft and does not know if anything else was done to prevent 4WD but says it definitely has been converted to 2WD. This was done to increase towing capacity. Has anyone heard of this before??? Also by removing the front driveshaft is that all you would need to do to disable the front drive. I do not think so but seek some information on this.

Removing the front drive shaft will make the truck RWD (2WD) only, but as far as that creating greater towing capacity, that's questionable.

There's other things you could do to defeat the 4WD but that would be a good way.

The fact that the owner doesn't know what else may have been done to make it 2WD raises some red flags.

So if you're interested in this truck does that mean you really want a 2WD truck?

I do have to comment here: My uncle Kenny (he was a mechanic/designer for Mickey Thompson) did pre-runner work for Mickey and Dick Cepek the year they were stranded by the hurricane. Bill Stroppe did most of the driving in the pre-runner in a 2WD Toyota p/u with only a winch. That's where I learned to use a shovel as a winch anchor!
