Roof Rails and Baskets

Looking to get roof rails and a basket put on the 4runner. Wondering if I should just get the factory cross rails or some aftermarket ones? Is there any benefit for the aftermarket or factory? If I go aftermarket which ones do I need? The basket will be carrying basic stuff for camping and probably won't exceed 120-150 lbs

Looking to see what people suggest. I've been wanting a basket or rack myself as well.

Yeah. Im sold on either a used basket or new Amazon special for around $100. Just trying to figure out should I use factory rails or would I be better off with aftermarket cross rails

Look up the rola roof rack on amazon. Good deal for the price. You can buy an extension for it as well. I had custom mounts welded/made where the stock roof rails go for it.

Here's a picture of the rola with the extension. I removed the cross rails when I got the rola.

What bars are you using? Stock crossbars or different ones?

Those look like stock rails to me.

I always prefer more of a stock look unless you're going with a ton of mods. I'm guessing you're not going crazy with mods so I suggest spend the few extra dollars on the stock rails vs aftermarket because most aftermarket will be wider than the width of the side rails (OCD gets the best of me lol). What gen do you have? I found stock cross rails for my 5th gen on ebay for ~$80 shipped that were brand new. I can look it up in my history if you would like me to.

Obviously you like the basket from your response so this may be a dumb to ask after knowing that. How do you like the height of the basket on the roof rack? I like to be as low a profile as possible (obviously you can't avoid that depending on what you carry). Can you post a picture of a side angle? How is the basket attacked to the cross rails?

The height was my biggest concern.. the basket sits on top of the stock rails.. I was hoping for a lower profile option... but after driving with it i got used to it.. i will post another photo.. it attatches with 4 feet that clip onto the basket.. the feet sit on the cross bars.. then u bolts go under the rails and fasten to the feet.. so the feet are sandwiched between the basker and crossbars..

I was under the impression that the stock rails were the cheapest way to go based of some of the research I have done. Also I was concerned about the weight of what I carry. But my setup will be nearly identical to yours with the addition of a homemade solar shower

Do you have a link for which one you have? It looks like there's a couple different ones. Thanks
I guess the better question is what size is your roof rack?
