Ideas for the spare tire area, sans tire.

So I'm just starting my build, going with 315's so the spare will go on a CBI swing out. Any suggestions for what to do with that spare area? I've looked into getting an enduro fuel tank but can't find any concrete answers on what will or will not work.

Any ideas what to use the space for?

Lots of room for an air tank but they are kinda pointless if you have a good compressor, unless you are trying to run power tools.

Hidden storage box.

Cut out the cargo area floor and weld in a drop-down storage area.

Small rotopax storage maybe.

Water tank storage.

Don't put anything there and enjoy a lighter rig.

I've considered this but I'm already putting drawers and a fridge behind the seats so getting all that to move for access to the floor would be a pain.

Air tanks or water sound doable. I'll have to get someone to fab a skid for it all.

Bummer.

Water tanks seem super sketchy to me. Lots of weight shifting right between the rear ties.
I realize we have a gas tank sloshing around as well but it's in the middle and a longer container.

I might be moving my fuel tank to the back instead but this is what I had planned for adding a storage box underneath. Basically, it would work if you used a platform instead of a drawer but that would be the compromise.

I plan on mounting an air compressor, air tank, and possibly a second battery in the spare tire spot when I build my bumper. Auxiliary fuel tank would be good as well but I’ll probably just use jerrycans or Rotopax.

That's pretty awesome. Probably above what I can do at home.

I'm liking the idea of fuel in that area. Maybe just 2 jerry cans side by side, up as high as I can get them. Them I could get some cheap electric fuel transfer pump to full the main tank when I needed. I'll already have 1 jerry can on the bumper. So 15gal of extra fuel should get me up to a range of ~550 miles.

Maybe a rear facing winch in that area too. Have someone but and weld in a pair of fairleads for the line to go through the rear frame.

Sounds like a great place to put a spare tire?

A pair of Jerrycans is not a fuel tank. If you get rear-ended the results could be bad. I would rethink this idea.
