Changes coming for Entune
Received an email today that states:
Dear Toyota Owner,
Thank you for being a Toyota Entune™ App Suite customer.
As technology and markets change, third-party application providers continuously evolve their products and services. On November 13th, 2018, a multimedia system update will appear on your vehicle display. After completion, Pandora®, OpenTable®, and Facebook Places will no longer be available in Entune™ App Suite, as these products and services will no longer be supported by the third-party application providers.
In your Toyota, you can still enjoy Pandora and other popular music applications via Bluetooth or USB connection. For your device's compatibility and pairing instruction, please visit Toyota.com/entune.
We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. If you have any questions, please contact the Toyota Customer Experience Center at 1-800-331-4331 Monday - Friday, 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, or Saturday 7:00 am to 4:30 pm Central Time.
Sincerely,
Toyota Entune Customer Support
Not to concerned with OpenTable or Facebook (don't use either) but as I just got a free year of Pandora with T-Mobile, the integration is nice. Oh well, looking at replacing the head unit (and speakers) anyway with something more Android friendly.

Yes, but negates the benefit of having a head unit control it all. Suffice to say, Entune is the one thing I wish these didn't come with. I know there are those whom do like it but me, not so much.

With next gen Entune having Apple CarPlay, i guess supporting these 3rd party apps is obsolete from Toyota standpoint.

Well that kind of sucks. My wife and I just bought a 2018 Highlander last week. Boooo! Still love the Highlander though!

No, you won't have CarPlay in your $40,000 SUV, or your $80,000 Land Cruiser. Because Toyota knows what you need, not what you want. And yes, I become internet outraged every time this subject comes up. Maybe in 2020! grrr....

Mine doesn't even work right with Bluetooth for my phone calls.
Worst head unit in a modern car IMO.

Pandora sounded like ass anyway when using Entune and sounded horrid just like XM- straight up tin can hallway.. Pandora sounds better streaming from your phone via Bluetooth with "higher audio quality" selected in settings.

The car play is a game changer my wife has it in her VW. I just bought a 12 4runner with the JBL and nav, what a total POS. I knew that going into it though. I already had most of my new audio gear purchased months before I even had the truck.

every thing I dont need and take away the one thing I use. even though it crappy it works most of the time. The local weather, well lets see im in the car and can see the weather, stupid. Gps on my phone. Open table, what am i a restaurant critic
If they could make it more about the driving experience and less about local entertainment. With all that driving im doing the gas price check option should get me into Canada witch is where it wants to lead me when I pull it up. I dont live in Canada. P.O.S.

i use the pandora app daily and wish i could get a replacement stereo now that didn't look ugly (i've never seen any of the filler plates look like an OEM installation). i hate having to use my phone to control music, it takes your eyes off the road too much.
i'm not sure what i'll do next, xm radio maybe?
