Our 2009 LC200 has almost 300,000 miles. Other than routine maintenance, it's had no issues whatsoever.

Stunning. Hope this is not the last of the V8s.

I'd rather have the 3rd row...ive always got some 5th or 6th person to tote around...but ill take any 200 LC i can get my hands on, truth be told...
its the ONLY upgrade i can see after my 5th Gen...
Ive even spent way too much time day dreaming about my 'if the lotto hits' auto purchases...
give the T4R to my son who is 13...
and go purchase a 200 LC to sooth my soul

It may be the last of the V8s but I certainly hope they just improve the current 5.7 and keep it in the mix. The 5.7 is kinda of old and thirsty when compared to others. While I love twin-turbo V6s on the road, I do not particularly like them in slow/steep situations offroad.

There is about a 0.0000000001% chance that the next LC will have a V8. It is TT V6.

Darn. I guess 95% of them will be only on pavement so that makes sense but that would be one of my concerns if I ever bought one. As early and mildly as the turbos kick in, there is a hit and before that hit, there is almost no torque for a heavy vehicle. That makes crawling at low speeds in steep sections very annoying, because there is no torque or too much suddenly. Maybe the LC will do a better job of handing this than, for example, the Expedition. Maybe a 4:1 t-case ratio will help at those crawling speeds and provide enough in 4Lo with no need for turbos. I'm curious to see the new tech in these.

The turbo setup on the NX is pretty mild. The tune feels very much like a NA engine. But... it's also pretty weak in my experience. I think a turbo 3.5 v6 with the proper gearing could work really well. The 3.5 turbo in the LS500 has a compression ratio of 10.5:1 and a long stroke/small bore. That's an unusual setup for a turbo engine and is pretty obviously heavily weighted toward low rpm power rather than peak power. It should have a great torque curve in the low RPM range. Probably more torque at 1,000 than the current 5.7. And it's very fuel efficient. This is the overlay of the 1UR (4.6 v8) vs the V35A-FTS (3.5 turbo). I'm not fluent in Japanese, but I assume those are both Toyota published output charts.
To me - that looks absolutely fantastic for a truck engine. I think it'll out perform the 3UR across the entire RMP range including off idle. Especially if it's combined with an electric drive system for low speed stuff. The current 8AT has a much lower 1st gear than something like the 4Runner. With the 4.8:1 first vs the 3.5:1 in the A750, it's about like having a 4:1 transfer case in terms of transmission/transfer case combined gearing. The LC200 of course upped the diff ratio IMO a bit too far to 3.30. But that's easy to change. With even 4.30 diffs, you'd have a crawl ratio of 55:1. And still have a really decent overdrive ratio. And gobbs of power throughout the RPM range.
For me - I'll take the V35A.

I am sure that the new engine will be great...like what Jetboy said above. I am sure that Toyota will use a 10-speed auto with the turbo engine...so that should give it some gearing advantages.
My only concern......and it’s a minor one given that this is Toyota and Land Cruiser.......is long-term durability of the engine. But i guess in next few years, we will know more about it from the Lexus LS500 turbo engine and how it holds up.

If Toyota wants to go the turbo and 15 speed automatic on road luxo barge route, there are already German luxury SUVs that are in another league. I want something that is body on frame and from the last century if it's going to be a Land Cruiser. Otherwise I'm getting the new Cayenne Coupe.

Well, supposedly, the next LC will be more utilitarian (less luxury) and just as capable (if not more) than current LC. BOF and solid rear axle are likely the case for the new LC, based on rumors that i have read.
I have faith in Toyota not screwing up the LC, which has been their flagship for decades.

I have said, on this forum with multiple witnesses, that I will buy TWO of them if that's the case.

Good luck finding a decent one! And if you find one with lockers, then good luck finding one that is not abused off-road!

My friend found a pristine one then it was destroyed by a Colorado hailstorm.
