$169 for next map update (waiting 'till October) WORTH IT?

Hey Party People,
So perhaps I can hit up the darker side of the Internet and find a copy of the last map updates for my 2017 4Runner but frankly I'd rather not run the chance of goofing up my console.

I am sure I can get map updates a bit cheaper than via the dealer such as on EBay (Not my favorite stop & shop) but I figure I can hold them to the fire if there's an issue.

Do you think it's worth $169 for the dealer's SD card and install (I don't doubt the install could go up)?

I see it around $150 from more reputable sites but that's pretty pathetic.

I am going to wait until the fall I think though I have 2016 maps. I don't care to get old maps now and feel cheated by October again.

I already find it annoying they don't include map updates when I can get that stuff free from Google but I realize it's proprietary and takes a modicum of effort.

Thoughts? Should I just look into some way to mirror my phone for Google Maps? Wonder if the Alexa Echo Auto will have a way to do that when asking for directions...

Thank u kindly

A Magnetic phone mount or ram mount and using my iphone with free google maps, Waze, etc is far better sounding to me than constantly having to pay $170 for a map upgrade.

Google Maps app you can download an area for offline use even, and use for navigation with zero cell service.

Same. Even if I had stock navigation, I'd rather replace the unit with a CarPlay unit/etc than pay that much money for newer maps. Look at it this way: Spend $350 or so and get a better head unit that piggybacks your phone; Use Apple Maps or Google Maps or Waze, etc and never "pay for map updates" again.
