RAV4s are awesome.

I'd love to have a low mileage 2009-2012 base model 4cyl AWD, white with tan cloth interior. I'd throw the hubcaps and spare tire cover in the trash, put on some Cooper ATs, Rally Armor mud flaps, some factory height Bilsteins, and go blast around forest service roads.

Yeah but have you seen a Crown Vic's trunk space?!

So I assume this has a locking center diff like the Limited? 8.6 inches of ground clearance is really good. It's actually much better looking than the old Rav4 and is a new gen as opposed to the 5th gen 4Runner which has been around for 10 years already.

Haha... We locked a high school buddy of mine in the trunk. After about 5 minutes of yelling for help he ended up just taking a nap it was so spacious. LOL

Reviving this thread:

As someone looking for some sort of SUV/Crossover I don't see where the Rav4 TRD fits.

My assumption is that the MSRP will be pretty close to that of the 4Runner Off Road. It seems like, at that point, the only benefit of the Rav4 would be MPG. It'd be unproven at this point in terms of reliability and resale, which the 4Runner is well know.

The Tacoma TRD seems like a good spot, but I've read so much about how cramped the cabin is.

Seems like there isn't any reasonable options for a practical SUV/Truck.

I guess I will buy the new rav 4 Black Edition, I just really like how it looks. I still own a 2004 rav 4, I guess that is one of the most reliable cars around. During 16 years since I bought it, the only thing that broke was the ecm. Thankfully, I found it for a reasonable price on 2001-2005 Toyota Rav4 ECM Repair Service | Technical Domain . Hope the new one is still that reliable as the old one.
I think Toyota is trying to give the Rav4 some reasonable off road chops. Maybe it's better than its direct competitors at that? Here's something I found a while back that is interesting.
