Do you carry an aftermarket spare tire?

I知 getting ready to buy a set of 285/70/17 BFG KO2痴. I知 debating buying a fifth to put in place of the factory spare under my 4Runner. For those of you running aftermarket tires on your T4R, do you carry a matching spare?

Yes, I have the spare in the back because it wont fit underneath. But, I have a hitch carrier on the way.

I match the spare. My original spares were pretty old and in case the "bad" tire can't be repaired it would probably take at least a week for me to order a new tire and have it mounted/balanced.

Make an investment out it, and include it in the rotation. That's what I have on mine. 5th wheel makes the rounds. Of course I could be completely wonko!

I just added a matching spare yesterday in 285 Falken and it fit fine in the 5th gen. I hope to be adding a rear tire carrier so it doesn't have to stay under the Runner for too long.

You fit a 285/70/17 tire underneath the rig where the OE spare tire went? That痴 amazing I did not think we could fit one that size...got any pics/tips??

285/70 KO2's here and I have a matching spare (rim and tire) in the stock location. It is a little snug but fits with no modification needed. you do have to keep it aligned as you tighten it up to make sure it site correctly but no issue.

Since i have a matching wheel as well I do a 5 tire rotation when I do my rotations, keeps them all wearing evenly and prolongs the time between tire changes by ~20%

I run a full size matching spare on a matching rim and do a 5 tire rotation every 5,000 miles. The main reason i do it is due to the fulltime 4wd. that way if I need a spare there is no significant size difference between my spare and my other tires.

I swapped out my Michelin ho hum all-season tires for the BFG A/T KO2's and couldn't be happier. No road noise, excellent traction, and just put the best one of the Michelins as my spare.

I put a 285/70R-17 spare under mine. Fits fine. Probably cuts back on the departure angle just a bit though.

For cost and weight reasons, I put a Discount Tire Pathfinder AT P-rated under there. I put this on too. Hitch Skid. I haven't tested it yet to see if the dirt hits it first or not but it is a good step to access the back top and can be used for recovery. Also can be used as a wheel chock.

Yes. I find having a matching full spare is very important for long road trips or if you plan on going to offroad parks that require low >12 psi, there is always a chance of popping a bead. Happened to me twice.

I am able to fit a 295/70/17 in the spare tire well but it sits way too low. Defeats the purpose of having any sort of departure angle. Put it on a removable swing out instead.

Absolutely... I carry a matching spare and a matching rim, for two completely different sets.

Even if I get a flat, I can get back to it in style haha, on and off-road.

Thanks for all the feedback everyone!

Looks like I'll be getting a fifth KO2 to replace the OEM spare. I do like the idea of rotating it in during rotations. I wonder what the chances of me finding a single stock TRD Off-Road wheel are
